POSITION SUMMARY:

The Maintenance Technician will be responsible for performing general building and property maintenance. The Maintenance Technician will maintain various pieces of equipment, and provide assistance as directed in the maintenance department. Responsible for performing highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain production and facility equipment according to safety, predictive and productive maintenance systems and processes to support the achievement of the site’s business goals and objectives.

What You Bring to the Role:

  • High school diploma or GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • A diploma or degree in power engineering, mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance or engineering considered an asset.
  • Building trades certificate or equivalent is an asset.
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License required.
  • Clear criminal record check completed a maximum of three (3) months prior to the ‘date of hire’ required.
  • Strong written and verbal English skills to effectively communicate with all residents, visitors and at all levels within the organization required.
  • Knowledge and ability to work on electrical systems and equipment.
  • Ability to perform small repairs (e.g. caulking, replacing washers, and replacing light fixtures).
  • Able to create alternative solutions to problems.
  • Excellent time management and project management skills.
  • Ability to exercise necessary cost control measures.
  • Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment.
  • Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.
  • First Aid skills and/or certificates are considered assets.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Inspects and cleans building and mechanical equipment, etc. for the purpose of ensuring that it is suitable for safe operations, maintained in an attractive and clean condition, and/or identifying necessary repairs.
  • Maintains records for the purpose of providing an up-to-date reference trail and/or complying with mandated requirements.
  • Performs minor repairs to equipment and facilities for the purpose of maintaining facilities and equipment in safe operating condition.
  • Responds to maintenance inquiries from staff and residents
  • Reads and interprets equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
  • Diagnoses problems, replaces or repairs parts, tests and makes adjustments.
  • Performs regular preventive maintenance on machines, equipment and facilities.
  • Uses a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters and material handling equipment in performing duties.
  • Apply paint to interior and exterior surfaces of building, including resident suites and common areas.
  • Operates grounds-keeping power equipment and maintain external property.
  • Troubleshoots, installs, and repairs plumbing fixtures, piping, and related equipment.
  • Troubleshooting, cleaning and small repairs for home/kitchen appliances.
  • Engage in friendly, polite conversation with residents.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Work Conditions

  • On call duties are required.
  • Physically strenuous work.
  • Must be able to lift up to 75lb frequently.
  • Travel to the other sites will be required and off-site locations may be required.
  • Safety equipment will be required, e.g. steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses/goggles, etc.
  • Potential exposures to infectious diseases, including an outbreak environment.
  • Overtime as required.
  • Hazards associated with the trade.
  • Indoor and outdoor work, including exposure to extreme environmental temperatures.
  • Interacts regularly with residents.
