Description:
JOB SUMMARY:
The Maintenance Technician (MT) provides response to daily requests logged through the Facilities Service Desk in the capacity of both reactive and planned preventative maintenance in all areas of building operations and services. This includes mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural, air-conditioning equipment and general service calls relating to (but not limited to): door/lock issues, minor carpentry, furniture repair/installation, painting, and general building assistance.
The MT works closely to oversee and manage external contractors with a technical skill to perform reactive repairs, planned preventative maintenance on equipment as well as general repairs/upgrades. The MT coordinates the timing and completion of contract services to ensure the efficiency of contracted work.
The MT employs responsible and safe workplace practices in accordance with UFV and other regulatory bodies and utilizes a keen eye for detail, combined with solid technical knowledge, to support the smooth operation of university buildings and equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5th Class Power engineer certification required.
- Trades Qualification in relevant discipline or Certification in building systems or maintenance programs is preferred.
- Five (5) years of experience working with heating, air conditioning, ventilation, electrical, plumbing and associated mechanical systems, and a basic knowledge of all construction trades.
- Experiencing utilizing a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to manage workload, including both routine and planned preventative maintenance tasks.
- Experience operating high-reach hydraulic lifts.
- Valid BC driver’s license.
- WHMIS certification mandatory.
- Ability to lift 50-60 pounds.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and discern primary areas of focus.
- A working knowledge of computers and building control systems is required.
- Experience in the coordinating and monitoring of trades personnel and contractors is desirable.
- Required to work in environments exposed to toxic fumes, loud noise, dust, extreme temperatures, heights, and equipment with moving parts that requires employee to be cognizant of all safety protocols & procedures inherent in their field, making use of professional protection equipment such as ear plugs, safety glasses, respirators, and gloves.
- Duties require a high degree of physical exertion which includes bending down, kneeling, crouching for extended periods of time, pulling, pushing, manually carrying, lifting & transporting heavy objects.
- Required to work in inclement weather conditions ranging from extreme cold periods of rain, snow, ice, freezing rain, high winds, to extreme hot periods and heat waves.
- Ability to work on multiple campuses and on different shifts, based upon operational needs.
