Description:

The Mammography Tech 1 arranges patients for Mammography examinations. Prevents patient from being exposed to unnecessary radiation. Ensures patient safety by using pre-established imaging protocols, and screens patients for safe administration of contrast media. Utilizes departmental policy to perform safe operation of equipment and all functions of the job. Provides complete pre and post education to patients and family. Initially, may require instruction and guidance to accomplish the job and should develop into performing work under general supervision.

  • Patients are correctly identified along with their files ensuring a high degree of accuracy, as evidenced by the lack of mislabeled studies.
  • Patients are tracked according to department procedures, and technologist can Identify errors and takes immediate action for corrections, as evidenced by the RIS reports.
  • Effectively communicates with patient to obtain clinical history/informed consent from the patient or patient’s chart to assist the physician in optimizing the performance and interpretation of the examination, as evidenced by the exam results.
  • The procedure is appropriately explained to patients/families and answers any questions to ease anxiety and assure patient cooperation, as evidenced by lack of complaints.
  • Clinical and/or emergent problems that may interfere with exams are recognized and appropriate action taken to resolve them and produce the most desirable outcome, as evidenced by exam results and patient satisfaction.
  • The technologist reports, documents and corrects any adverse, unsafe or unusual conditions, as evidenced by the patient/employee incidence reports.

  • Effective use of radiation protection with appropriate dose control and protective shielding is demonstrated, as evidenced by incidence reports.
  • Exposure reading is maintained within the ALARA limits, as evidenced by monthly radiation exposure reports
  • The ability to modify technical factors and algorithms that will effectively control the radiation dose the patient receives according to ACR guidelines is demonstrated as evidenced by meeting ACR standards and Radiologists satisfaction.

  • An orderly, safe, and clean environment is maintained, rooms are stocked with appropriate supplies and has required supplies readily available for procedures, as evidenced by lack of complaints.
  • Imaging and other related equipment is operated according to manufacturer’s specifications, and performs daily calibration and adjustments as required and evidenced by exam results.
  • Equipment is troubleshoot effectively and reports equipment problems immediately to biomedical engineering/vendor, as evidenced by service reports.
