Responsibilities:
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Manager, Alerting Systems is a vital member of the Operational Telecommunications Systems team within the Emergency Communications Information Services (ECIS) Department. This role is responsible for managing all technical support for alerting-based network systems, applications, and devices, including oversight of the Emergency Alerting System (EAS) Contract. This involves vendor and stakeholder management for technical matters within the ECIS portfolio, ensuring the effective operation of these systems in a mission-critical environment for Victoria’s law enforcement and public safety organisations.
Additionally, the Manager provides specialist technical advice and support to Triple Zero Victoria, the State’s Contract Lead, Emergency Management Technology and Data, and other stakeholders, utilizing subject matter experts and technical specialists. The position also offers configuration management, technical review, and operational support for alerting-based contracts, while developing comprehensive reports and guidance for the Senior Manager, Operational Telecommunications Systems on technical matters.
Day to day responsibilities include:
- Provide high-level technical advice across the design, performance, and service functions of emergency services communications systems, including the alerting systems contracts and relevant standards
- Offer expert technical support to stakeholders, ensuring high-quality advice and recommendations for the operation of alerting systems
- Support change initiatives for alerting systems, ensuring proper integration and managing related issues
- Advise the Senior Manager, Operational Telecommunications Systems and the State’s Contract Manager on service requests and contract modifications, assessing risk and impact on systems like EAS, SAS, and TZV CAD
- Conduct research and analysis on complex technical issues, such as network performance and capacity, and lead the resolution of emerging risks and trends
- Mentor and support the development of the Alerting Systems Technical Specialist while managing operational incidents, changes, and issues, including after-hours coordination as needed.
To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following skills and experience:
- Extensive experience in the Emergency Services Sector, particularly in an Operational Communications environment
- Proven leadership skills with current experience in managing and leading high-performing teams
- In-depth knowledge of critical alerting systems, with a focus on the Emergency Alerting System (EAS) service
- Strong understanding of information technology networking and application fundamentals
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders
