POSITION DETAILS
The University of Lethbridge Information Technology Services team is seeking applications for the position of Manager, Campus Applications. While flexible or hybrid work options may be possible, this position will typically work at least 3 days a week on the Lethbridge campus.
Reporting to the Director, Applications, the Manager, Campus Applications is responsible for leading a team of Application Support Analysts and Database Administrators, who collectively provide support, maintenance and collaboration on numerous critical systems across campus. This includes applications used for printing, campus cards, door access, food services transactions, parking, housing services, course scheduling, point-of-sale systems, and many more. This team is also responsible for the reliability, security, and performance of databases for these applications, as well as for our campus ERP system (Ellucian Banner), security systems, websites, and other applications that are critical to campus services.
This position is responsible for extensive engagement with business unit representatives who utilize these applications, and work with them to ensure a clear support plan is in place for each application based on their usage, deployment, and complexity. This manager will lead their team in establishing and maintaining all necessary architecture, standards, frameworks, and quality assurance processes to proactively support and maintain these applications in alignment with University needs and priorities. This manager will ensure that relevant best practices are identified and adopted, and will place a priority on the on-going development and growth of all team members.
To be successful, the incumbent must be comfortable with a broad set of responsibilities that involve significant interaction and engagement with senior University leaders, as well as the ability to guide technology directions, understand complex systems architecture, learn stakeholder processes, and coordinate with other IT Services team members.
The University of Lethbridge is undertaking a job classification and compensation review for Administrative Professional Officer (APO) positions. As such, the salary range currently assigned for this position may be adjusted as a result of this project.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent degree.
- 7 + year’s experience with application implementation & support, preferably in a post-secondary environment.
- Knowledge and/or experience with maintaining and supporting databases such as Oracle, MS SQL, MySQL, etc.
- Ability and willingness to effectively manage, coach, and consistently provide specific performance feedback to direct reports.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, including the ability to confidently manage competing priorities and situations where demands significantly exceed the time available to service them.
- Ability to function effectively at both the strategic and tactical/detail levels, correctly discerning which approach to take in any given circumstance.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate with colleagues at all levels, speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations.
