Responsibilities:

MŌ TĒNEI TŪRANGA – ABOUT THE ROLE

Working within the Enterprise Project Management Office (EPMO) as a key member of the EPMO Leadership Team, your role plays a pivotal part in ensuring our capability assets are protecting and enabling our front line firefighters. Reporting to the National Manager, EPMO, you will lead and be accountable for the performance of a team of ten project delivery and contract management professionals, delivering capability development projects across assets, people and service delivery as well as managing project delivery contracts.
We define capability as making sure our front line workforce have the appropriate equipment, and the training they need to undertake the task at hand. Our capability projects are complex, requiring high levels of engagement with end users, national and international supply chains, and technology enabled solutions in many cases. Within this role, you will also be leading and supporting the development of standardised tools, processes and templates to support the assured delivery of capability projects whilst creating a best practice capability project and programme delivery function.

KO TĀU NĀ I TĒNEI TŪRANGA - WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE

You will have extensive and demonstrable experience in programme management of complex projects including managing teams delivering projects and taking an accountability and oversight role in their successful delivery. Developing and implementing project plans and baselining programmes will provide an opportunity to show your outstanding skills. As an experienced people leader, you will possess senior level experience managing, coaching and guiding your team to build competence and repeatable and assured delivery cadence on projects.
Experience delivering fleet, equipment, training, or other capability projects in an operational environment is highly advantageous.

TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE, WE’D EXPECT YOU WILL HAVE:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline
  • A project management qualification (eg PMP) and extensive project delivery experience
  • Proven people management skills, focused on delivery teams
  • Ability to drive complex projects delivering assets, strategic plans or capability uplift to end users
  • High levels of stakeholder engagement planning and delivery
  • Solid writing skills and attention to detail in the preparation and review of decision and reporting artefacts
  • Experience in procurement planning and execution for central or local government
  • Experience negotiating and managing project delivery contracts
  • A strong handle on project and programme risk identification and management.
  • Experience in the identification of project lessons and the ability to develop actionable improvementsProject/Programme Director or Management experience is desirable.
