At Te Tai Ōhanga - The Treasury we’re creating a better future for New Zealand and everyone who calls our amazing country home. We’re the Government’s economic and financial advisor, working hard to raise the standard of living for everyone in Aotearoa, now and in the future.
Our talented people bring their diverse backgrounds and experiences to tackling New Zealand’s biggest and most inter-connected issues. Every day, they are influencing, advising, and supporting Ministers, Crown Chairs and CEOs, and Government decision-makers to shape our country’s collective tomorrow.
Our Commercial and Institutional Performance: Investment team is one of four teams in the Commercial Performance and Governance Directorate. The directorate provides ownership, performance and governance advice for commercially and financially focused Crown-owned entities, including the Crown’s largest financial institutions, with the objective of ensuring alignment with government objectives and enhancing performance and value for New Zealanders.

Responsibilities:

As Manager CIP: Investment, you will be responsible for the relationship with the New Zealand Superannuation Fund, ACC’s investment function, Natural Hazards Commission Toka Tū Ake and a number of other investment and pension entities, which collectively manage assets valued at over $100bn. You will lead a team of nine specialist, talented and focused principals, seniors, and analysts and a team assistant.
You will be an active member of the directorate Senior Leadership Team and will report through to the Director, Commercial Performance and Governance. The directorate brings together our entity performance functions in a centre of expertise and as manager you will have the opportunity to shape the broader function as part of a collaborative management team, with the two other Commercial & Institutional Performance managers who are responsible for commercial entities and our Governance & Appointments manager.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring your team develops and delivers impactful advice that informs and influences government decisions to enhance the performance and value of our Crown financial institutions for New Zealanders,
  • Providing sound intellectual and people leadership, including development to lift capability,
  • Building effective, and enduring relationships with senior government and Crown entity stakeholders, including Ministers, Chairs, Boards and Chief Executives in often ambiguous and challenging situations,
  • Influencing decision makers at the highest level whilst connecting issues and being aware of changing environments,
  • Working as part of a collaborative management team, with the other two Commercial & Institutional Performance managers and our Governance & Appointments manager, to deliver our focus for a strengthened centre of entity performance expertise.
  • Be a clear and concise communicator with proven ability in communicating complex information to decision makers.
