Description:
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline, such as business administration, Social Work, or Social Justice.
EXPERIENCE:
5 years of related experience.
Experience in crime prevention guided by an anti-racism, equity, diversity, inclusion, and social justice lens.
3 years of management experience.
Experience providing leadership to a team of client facing staff.
SKILLS:
Knowledge
Knowledge of a Community Centric Safety model of Security field.
Knowledge gained through broad or deep experience in a recognized field which requires a command of either theory and principles and involved, diverse practices and precedents.
Knowledge of trauma-informed practices, community engagement, and mental health considerations to ensure a holistic approach to community safety.
Knowledge of the social determinants as they relate to human rights, decolonization, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Knowledge of the Security Guard and Private Investigators Act.
Knowledge of the Employment Standards Act.
Knowledge of Trespass to Property Act.
Knowledge of Anti-Oppressive, Anti-Racism, Positive Youth Development, Strength Based frameworks.
Intermediate knowledge of spreadsheet (MS Excel), word processing (MS Word) and electronic presentation skills (MS PowerPoint, MS Visio).

Responsibilities:
The Manager, Community Safety Operations role is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of Community Safety at York University for the Keele, Glendon and Markham campuses. Under the direction of the Director, Community Safety Operations, the role is responsible for providing effective, efficient, and timely delivery of community safety and emergency response to students, staff, faculty, and visitors that comprise the York University community. The role manages the Community Safety staff who provides initial response and follow-up to incidents, events, and occurrences that occur on York University campuses. Further, the Manager works collaboratively with the diverse York community to support safety incidents, issues, and programs. The role also develops and maintains a workplace culture that emphasizes equity, diversity and inclusion, quality, and continuous improvement.The role implements trauma-informed practices, fosters community engagement, and addresses mental health considerations to create a safe and inclusive environment. Further this role models the identified mission, vision and values of the Community Safety Department and the University. Under the direction of or in the absence of the Director, may act as a designated representative for the Director when attending meetings with senior administration or the York community for the purpose of representing Community Safety ensuring timely and effective resolutions to issues raised.
