Financial Sector Regulation and Policy (FSRP) provides policy and regulatory support and analysis on financial institutions, insurance and pensions (including the Canada Pension Plan). As part of its function, the division is responsible for ensuring legislation, regulation and policy meets current and emerging needs.

QUALIFICATIONS

University degree, preferably business, commerce, finance, economics, or related program plus minimum of 5 years experience in pension legislation, administrative procedures, and risk management principles.

The following would be considered an asset:

  • Strong project management skills with the ability to articulate and define user requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Diplomatic skills for conflict resolution in sensitive situations.
  • High level of analytical and interpretive skills, with the ability to make informed decisions based on complex information.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the ability to extract and organize data from PBIS for research and reporting purposes.

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Manager, Compliance and Operations will oversee regulatory compliance for pension plans, develop and implement operational procedures. You will play an integral role in the management and enhancement of the EP’s in-house data system, Pension Benefit Information System (PBIS), manage interfaces with national pension authorities, and conduct research projects. Additionally, you will mentor Compliance Officers and handle a portfolio of complex pension plans, ensuring their compliance with legislative standards from registration to wind-up.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure pension plans comply with the Employment Pension Plans Act and Regulation, intervening as necessary to maintain legislative standards.
  • PBIS Management: Oversee the functionality of PBIS, ensuring accurate data management and leading enhancement projects in collaboration with Service Alberta.
  • Training and Development: Prepare and train staff in compliance operations procedures, ensuring thorough understanding and effective implementation.
  • Research Projects: Conduct and oversee research projects to improve the analysis and administration of pension plans, staying abreast of industry trends and legislative changes.
  • Documentation Review: Assess and review plan documents to ensure compliance, working closely with pension professionals and plan administrators.
