Consultation and Reconciliation is responsible for coordinating and implementing meaningful engagement and consultation processes for mineral sector initiatives. The Manager, Consultation and Reconciliation is a specialized position that reports to the Executive Director. The position leads a team of Indigenous Engagement Specialists that foster inclusive economic growth and responsible mineral development in collaboration with Indigenous governments and representative organizations as a key component of the department’s approach to reconciliation. The incumbent provides leadership, advice and support for the project management and facilitation of Indigenous engagement and consultation processes.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Registered or eligible for registration with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (EGM) as a Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.), or the equivalent, transferable professional designation from another Canadian regulator
  • Must be able to travel within the province of Manitoba by land, water or air
  • Must possess and maintain a standard Class 5 drivers license with no restrictions
  • Must be able to travel with overnight accomodation

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Ph.D. or M.Sc. in geology, and considerable directly related experience, preferably some of which relates to Manitoba.
  • Experience and technical expertise in the mineral/geology sector.
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Experience understanding of the needs of the mineral exploration industry and the linkages between investment, discovery, and development.
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities and furthering the pursuit of truth and reconciliation.
  • Experience providing direction in the design and implementation of policies and programs.
  • Project management skills and the ability to lead multi-stakeholder groups to achieve project objectives within pre-determined deadlines. Including strong interpersonal and consensus building skills.
  • Political acumen demonstrated through experience providing strategic advice to senior leaders on complex topics and sensitive issues.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.

Desired:

  • Additional training or education in Indigenous Studies including a deep understanding of historic and contemporary issues facing Indigenous communities.

Duties:
The incumbent is responsible for managing a team of Indigenous Engagement Specialists to meet service and operational objectives, assigning work priorities, supporting staff development, providing coaching and training, and monitoring performance. The incumbent applies technical expertise in mineral exploration and mining to advise executive management on strategic options and policy implementation, addressing politically sensitive and complex issues. They oversee consultation and engagement processes, leveraging their mineral sector experience to provide insight into technical reviews and assessments. They lead the administration and financial aspects of consultation and engagement processes, aligning with departmental goals and offering input for long-term planning. They coordinate human and financial resources to achieve operational mandates, manage the development and delivery of services, and prepare necessary administrative documents and correspondence. They foster a respectful and engaged workplace culture that emphasizes diversity, innovation, learning, and continuous improvement.
