The City of Sydney is seeking a Manager, Cultural Space and Sector Development to join the dynamic Creative City Unit. The Manager, Cultural Space and Sector Development is responsible for the development and implementation of cultural initiatives that respond to the strategic needs of the City and our stakeholders to facilitate and support a vibrant and diverse cultural, artistic and creative city. The role aims to provide affordable and subsidised space for creative use throughout the City as well as providing support and resources for the sector as required.
We are looking for an experienced people leader who will develop and manage the Cultural Space and Sector Development team. The role and the team manage a broad range of projects, programs and initiatives that support affordable cultural venues, creative spaces and associated cultural sector support programs for the City. The role and the team also provide advice on cultural venue and creative spaces issues within and external to the organisation, and coordinate across the organisation to ensure the delivery of specific projects and cultural initiatives within specified timeframes. Examples of current areas of work include senior oversight of the City of Sydney Creative Studios, the City’s cultural Accommodation Grant and Creative Live/Work Space programs, the City’s significant cultural grant investment across its Grants and Sponsorship programs, Making Space for Culture and Creative Leadership initiatives in sustainability, accessibility, diversity, equity and inclusion.
To be suited to the role, you will need to have extensive people leadership experience, as well as tertiary qualifications at degree level, or wide-ranging knowledge of and experience in, the cultural and creative sectors, policies, programs and services, in particular in cultural infrastructure and programs; knowledge of, and experience in, current and best practice approaches to the development of, and different management models, suitable to run a wide range of creative spaces and sector programs for the City and a comprehensive understanding of and experience in researching, developing, implementing and monitoring strategic creative space and sector initiatives in a local government environment.
