Description:

Manager, Data Engineering
Overview of Position:
As a Data Engineering Manager leading the Data Engineering Team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the infrastructure that handles a company’s data assets, ensuring that data flows efficiently and securely from source to insight. Your team will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable data pipelines and storage systems that support analytics and data-driven decision-making with cloud technologies.

What you will do:

  • Lead a development team in the design, development, testing and debugging of applications.
  • Lead the evaluation and adoption of new data technologies and architectures.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of data pipelines.
  • Proactively drive the vision for BI and Data Warehousing across a product vertical, and define and execute on a plan to achieve that vision.
  • Facilitate agile ceremonies and backlog grooming and prioritization.
  • Lead goals and development objectives setting for each team member.
  • Provide mentoring and guidance to software developers of varying experience.
  • Oversee the design, construction, and maintenance of scalable and reliable data pipelines and architectures.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, IT teams, and other stakeholders to ensure data systems meet organizational requirements.
  • Cultivate a team culture promoting transparency, accountability and growth.
  • Monitor the performance of data systems and implementing improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce latency.
  • Allocate resources effectively, including budgeting for infrastructure costs and personnel.
  • Establish best practices for data engineering processes and promoting a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Lead the strategic planning of data projects, setting objectives, and outlining the roadmap for execution.
  • Communicate complex data-related concepts and progress to non-technical stakeholders to support informed decision-making.
  • Collaborate with data scientists and analysts to understand data needs.
  • Participate in recruitment and training of new team members.
  • Drive initiatives to foster a data-centric culture within the organization
  • Build cross-functional relationships with Data Scientists, Product Managers and Software Engineers to understand data needs and deliver on those needs.

What we need from you:

  • Ability to work independently, actively, and confidently to promote improvements and incorporate new technologies, throughout the lifecycle of each product.
  • Data architecture experience.
  • Experience in SQL or similar languages.
  • Ensuring data quality and pipeline reliability.
  • Development experience in at least one object-oriented language (Python, Java, etc.).
  • Good understanding of the software development life-cycle.
  • Experience working with Scrum and the Agile methodology.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Even better if you have:

  • Experience with source version control (e.g., git, bitbucket).
  • Experience with data sets, Hadoop, and data visualization tools.
