Description:

THE OPPORTUNITY

The role of a Manager, Development is to lead teams of software developers to ship reliable code on a consistent basis. You will be responsible for overseeing teams of software developers in designing, developing, testing, and maintaining software programs & applications. You will also collaborate with other managers and stakeholders to ensure that the software products meet the business objectives and customer requirements.
This position is for a 6 month contract covering a parental leave

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • 7+ years of direct software development experience with relevant technology stack.
  • 2+ years of leadership experience in one or more development methodologies
  • 2+ years of people supervision experience.
  • Earned minimum of associate degree (bachelor preferred) in Computer Science, Software Development, or equivalent experience managing software development teams.
  • Experience working with teams on a remote basis.
  • Experience with full Software Development Life Cycle.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead up to 10 direct reports empowering the right people for the right jobs, encouraging collaboration & teamwork, and addressing problem areas.
  • Plan and lead estimation for upcoming projects and determine the right people/team to tackle the project.
  • Manage the software development lifecycle (SDLC) from planning to deployment.
  • Set goals and expectations for the software development team and provide guidance and feedback.
  • Ensure that the software development processes and standards are followed and adhered to.
  • Evaluate and select appropriate tools, technologies, and methodologies for software development.
  • Monitor and report on the performance, quality, and progress of software development projects.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to software developers.
  • Research and stay updated on the latest trends and best practices in software development.
  • Possess strong understanding of the core technologies used and why they are used.
  • Be familiar with various software development methodologies, such as Agile, Scrum, Waterfall, etc.
  • Possess knowledge of software development tools, such as IDEs, version control systems, testing frameworks, etc.
  • Possess strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Work under a variety of pressures while utilizing excellent time management skills.
  • Have a passion for innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Actively support their teams in setting and achieving their career goals.
  • Set employee expectations, hold yearly reviews, and guide career advancement.
  • Be knowledgeable of our software products including the benefits and business proposition they provide to our customers.
