JOB OVERVIEW – MANAGER, DIGITAL PLATFORM ENGINEERING

HUB International is rapidly expanding our digital product offerings and technology solutions and is seeking a motivated leader to head our Digital Platform Engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for leading the teams focused on Cloud Engineering and Operations for HUB’s expanding portfolio of Digital products, ensuring the availability and performance of mission-critical infrastructure and applications hosted within a cloud environment.
Our ideal candidate can demonstrate a track record of partnering with business and technology leaders to design, develop, and manage cloud infrastructures supporting digital products and solutions. You will collaborate closely with Product Owners and Designers, Solutions Architects, Application Development Managers, ITSM/Tooling and DevOps Teams, Agile Scrum and Program Management Teams, Internal Business Partners, Security and Compliance Teams, and the broader IT organization to deliver and maintain digital insurance products that our customers love.
The successful candidate has a strong talent for designing, developing, integrating, and supporting cloud-based infrastructures for digital products. This leader will oversee all aspects of Cloud Engineering and Operations, including requirements definition, design, deployment, integration, and operations support for HUB’s suite of digital properties, leveraging each product’s capabilities and best practices in support of HUB’s long-term digital strategy. You will develop and promote the team’s capabilities and practices across HUB’s IT and Business teams, expanding their reach, impact, and capacity as needed to consistently execute their responsibilities and achieve their goals in a timely and quality manner.
This leader will oversee all Cloud Engineering and Operations, including application and database administration, monitoring and alerting, production scheduling, release management, incident management, change management, and communications for the cloud-based infrastructures supporting HUB’s digital properties.
The Manager, Digital Platform Engineering will be a natural leader with a strong talent for developing high-performing teams and a proven ability to plan, design, deploy, and maintain cloud infrastructure for strategic digital platforms, ensuring consistent performance and timely support. This leader consistently builds strong working relationships with business and technology partners, communicates effectively across all levels of the organization, welcomes challenges, and always drives for the best business outcome. Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Digital Platform Engineering team, focused on maintaining the availability and performance of HUB’s mission-critical suite of applications that are hosted within a cloud environment,
  • Oversee the design, development, integration, availability, and performance of the company’s digital platform engineering and operations frameworks, including policies, standards, guidelines, and tools. Ensure the frameworks promote consistency, repeatability, supportability, and scale, and enable the automation, orchestration, and monitoring of the products, applications, and supporting infrastructure throughout their lifecycle,
  • Understand the needs and challenges of the Business, Marketing, and Technical teams and devise solutions that advance their business and technical goals. Collaborate with product owners, design teams, technical leads, and other stakeholders to identify business, technical, and operational requirements. Review technical specifications from clients and vendors to confirm the adequacy, accuracy, and functionality of proposed solutions,
  • Ensure that the digital platforms align with the company’s strategic goals and customer needs. Practice continuous improvement in standards, processes, designs, and tooling,
  • Partner with development teams to ensure that solutions are designed with customer user experience, scale/performance, and operability in mind,
  • Work closely with security and compliance teams to ensure that digital platforms adhere to corporate policies, address vulnerabilities, and align with industry standards,
  • In concert with the DevOps manager, ensure operational practices provide a DevOps-enabled foundation that utilizes tools and processes to identify application issues rapidly and ensures ongoing production availability.
  • Lead integration efforts to connect the digital platform(s) to various systems and services. Identify potential technical issues and assist in engineering possible solutions,
  • Define performance benchmarks and develop and manage key performance indicators (KPIs) for environmental, application, and operational performance that align with business and program objectives,
  • In concert with the ITSM/Tooling manager, monitor systems and application performance and system resource utilization to ensure the performance and reliability of mission-critical applications. Recommend strategies to address potential technical issues and to optimize availability and scalability,
  • Be available 24/7 for any critical system issues that require immediate resolution, providing leadership and direction to a multi-disciplinary IT team, and lead service-restoration efforts during critical outages,
  • Perform root-cause analysis for service interruption and establish preventive measures, mitigations, or needed changes,
  • Evaluate cloud applications, infrastructure, and associated costs at regular intervals. Recommend changes, upgrades, or improvements to support the scaling of HUB’s digital platform and continued realization of HUB’s product goals,
  • Lead “Technical Archeology” efforts (Platform and System Decomposition) to determine the digital platform needs to integrate with legacy, acquired, or new systems and services. Assist with application stack and systems decomposition research,
  • Engage with management regularly with reports on project status, activities, and achievements,
  • Direct and mentor a team of professionals, fostering an environment of growth and development. Promote a culture of customer obsession, inclusion, agility, and learning within the team,
  • Lead, manage, and motivate multiple internal and third-party resources, creating a collaborative environment across the business teams, IT, and vendors. Provide the organizational and technical leadership to plan and achieve project and operational goals, while holding internal and third-party resources accountable for their commitments and deliverables,
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant technology, bringing forth ideas for modernization and improvement.
