The UPMC Corporate Benefits team has an exciting opportunity available as a Manager, Employee Benefits. This is full-time position in a hybrid work environment.
In this role, the Manager, Employee Benefits contributes to the operational success by applying an understanding of employee benefits administration knowledge to strategic planning and operations of the UPMC Employee Benefits. They are responsible for managing all aspects of the day-to-day administration/operations of core group benefits (medical, dental, vision, disability, life, tuition reimbursement, spending accounts, etc.) and voluntary benefits vendor and carrier relationships. The individual must be analytical, detail-oriented, team-focused, and possess strong interpersonal skills to successfully work in a fast-paced and shared service/matrix environment.
The ideal candidate has experience administering various benefit plans across the employee population. Additionally, they are an experienced people leader who can successfully manage employees and vendor relationships.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and manage the day-to-day processes for health and welfare plan administration.
  • Coordinate Annual Open Enrollment activities including communications, testing and approval of enrollment technology, and overseeing the enrollment window period.
  • Partner with communication team to manage the communications for staff and leadership including annual enrollment guides, new hire guides, Summary Plan Description, and other items as required.
  • Manage the execution and reporting of employee benefit program transactions in areas such as eligibility, open enrollment, benefit integrations, tuition assistance, customer service, ACA compliance and various other benefit-related projects.
  • Manage various benefit vendor relationships as required and oversee the file transfer process and vendor reporting.
  • Identify and make continuous improvements in administration to deliver an outstanding experience for employees.
  • Coach and mentor direct reports; provide training, oversee performance, and help grow their careers. Lead a team of benefits professionals.
  • Assure that benefits administration is done in compliance of all regulatory requirements as it relates to ERISA, PPACA, COBRA and HIPAA and remain abreast of changes to applicable compliance and regulatory changes.
  • Works independently in a fast paced and complex organization.
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business, or a closely-related field required.
  • Six years of progressive employee benefits experience including health and welfare and retirement with an emphasis on benefit administration.
  • Minimum two years of management/supervisory experience.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of all federal, state and local laws as they apply to employee benefits, to include but not limited to ERISA, PPACA, COBRA, HIPAA and other employee benefit compliance.
  • Proven ability to build strategic alliances with key internal and external partners.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
  • Ability to use independent judgement and prioritize work.
  • Highly organized with ability to manage multiple high-priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with HRIS systems and reporting. Oracle/Cloud HRIS systems preferred.
  • This is a hybrid role and will require the ability to work on-site in Pittsburgh, PA as needed.
  • Proven experience as a people leader and project manager.
  • Experience working in a matrix organization and Shared Service environment a plus.
  • Ability to lead project teams from the design to the implementation stage/
  • Industry knowledge of employee benefits market and industry trends.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Excel and working with large data sets.
