WHAT QUALIFICATIONS DO YOU BRING?
- Completion of post-secondary education in Industrial Relations or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent combined with several years related work experience in a unionized environment.
- Previous supervisory experience is an asset.
- An LL.B designation or Masters of Industrial Relations and experience in labour and employment law are definite assets.
- The successful candidate will be required to further their education in related courses and seminars.
- Thorough understanding of employee and labour relations practices and principles and the collective bargaining process.
- Demonstrated familiarity with, and the ability to interpret, collective agreements.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply the Ontario Labour Relations Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act and related legislation and jurisprudence.
- Strong negotiation, mediation and conciliation skills, in addition to well-developed investigative, organizational, time management, interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills.
- Computer literate with knowledge of related applications required to perform duties.
- Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees.
- Responsible for treating passengers and employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (within their area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a service-provider and an employer.

Responsibilities:
As the Manager, Employee Relations you will be responsible for assisting the Director, Employee Relations in planning, directing and coordinating employee and labour relations activities to achieve established goals and objectives. This includes overseeing the day-to-day guidance provided to all levels of TTC management, staff and union employees on a wide variety of employment and Human Resources related issues; and overseeing and resolving more complex grievances, mediations and arbitrations, acting as designate for grievance hearings.
In addition, you will be responsible for supporting negotiations with the TTC’s bargaining units. Working with the Director – Employee Relations, the incumbent will help develop strategic bargaining objectives, direction, and proposals, and participate as a member of the negotiations team; interpreting existing Collective Agreements, Corporate Policies and Operational procedures, rules and regulations; and researching and preparing a variety of labour relations studies and projects.
You will oversee a team of Employee Relations staff, supervising their daily activities; providing guidance; and planning, assigning and monitoring work to ensure a high level of performance, quality and service orientation.
