Description:

Pacific Northern Gas Ltd. (PNG), a subsidiary of TriSummit Utilities Inc., owns and operates natural gas processing, transmission and distribution systems in British Columbia’s lower Peace, west central, and north coast regions. PNG’s western transmission system extends from the Enbridge gas transmission system north of Prince George and along the Highway 16 corridor to Terrace and then onto the port communities of Kitimat and Prince Rupert, providing gas transportation and service to twelve communities and a number of industrial facilities. In the Province’s northeast, Pacific Northern Gas (N.E.) Ltd., a subsidiary of PNG, provides gas processing, transmission and distribution service in the Dawson Creek, Fort St. John and Tumbler Ridge areas.
The Manager, Energy Solutions is responsible to manage PNG’s energy conservation and efficiency programs, low carbon and energy transformation initiatives, and energy policy development and compliance. This is a senior-level role based in Vancouver, BC and reporting to the Director, Business Development and Stakeholder Relations.

YOUR UNIQUE SKILL-SET AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Post Secondary certification in Engineering, Energy Management, Technology, Environmental Science, Project Management, Business, Marketing, Communications or a related field from an accredited post-secondary institution.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of related experience in an energy/technology/utility/industry role
  • Experience with full lifecyle project management – from concept to implementation
  • Demonstrated leadership in managing energy conservation/efficiency and/or energy decarbonization/transformation projects
  • Experience with energy policy development, advocacy with government and/or regulatory agencies, compliance with legislation/regulations
  • Experience with emissions reporting and/or carbon pricing is an asset
  • Experience/knowledge of low carbon technologies applicable to a natural gas utility is an asset
  • Excellent verbal, communication, presentation and negotiation skills
  • Strong technical/financial/commercial skill-set – good with words, numbers, concepts and people
  • Strategic thinker with solutions-oriented mindset
  • Vision, focus, passion, and determination - ability to work independently and lead teams
  • Strong team player with emphasis on building relationships and partnerships
  • Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills - ability to manage a diverse portfolio and keep multiple balls in the air simultaneously
  • Comprehensive knowledge of computer systems including Word, Excel, MS Outlook and various virtual meeting platforms
  • Valid BC driver’s license

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE:

The role has 3 main parts:

  • Oversee the approval, administration, management and implementation of PNG’s portfolio of ‘Smart Energy Solutions’ programs for residential, commercial and industrial customers.
  • Lead PNG’s low carbon and energy transformation initiatives and investments, including the sourcing, evaluation (technical, commercial) and implementation of innovative new technologies
  • Provide expert advice and advocacy to support the development of clean energy policies and compliance frameworks that affect PNG’s energy pipeline infrastructure and natural gas operations in Northern BC.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the end-to-end administration, management, marketing, and implementation of PNG’s portfolio of Smart Energy Solutions (Demand Side Management) programs
  • Oversee preparation of PNG’s applications and compliance reports to the BC Utilities Commission for Energy Conservation and Innovation Portfolio (Demand Side Management) funding
  • Prepare PNG’s Demand Side Management Plan and oversee the modelling, load/demand forecasting, and assessment of decarbonization scenarios for PNG’s Consolidated Resource Plan and Revenue Requirements applications
  • Serve as PNG’s resident subject matter expert for low carbon, decarbonization, and energy transformation technologies, initiatives, investments, and projects
  • Represent PNG at industry events (such as conferences and trade shows) and industry forums for innovation and low carbon technology assessment (e.g., Natural Gas Innovation Fund)
  • Oversee data collection, analysis and reporting of PNG’s greenhouse gas emissions (Scope 1, 2 and 3) – work with colleagues to identify emission reduction initiatives
  • Lead the identification, assessment and development of energy transformation initiatives and projects from concept to execution
  • Proactively manage risks, changes in project scope/cost/schedule, and critical path deliverables across all phases of the energy transformation project lifecycle
  • Engage with municipal, provincial, federal government ministries/agencies to provide fact-based information and advocacy for the role of natural gas and energy pipeline infrastructure
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment with staff and colleagues, promoting teamwork, innovation, sharing of information and ideas
