Description:

MANAGER, ENGINEERING SERVICES

This position is responsible for the administration, performance, and supervision of the engineering functions of Sturgeon County including infrastructure planning, capital project delivery, land development and asset management.

KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND EXPERIENCE

Knowledge

  • Diverse and comprehensive knowledge and understanding of:
  • business and management principles involved in municipal budgeting and financial procedures, and
  • Planning and resource allocation.
  • Understanding the general principles of motivating, leading, and supervising staff.Familiarity with local road and utility designs.

Education and Qualifications

  • A post-secondary bachelor’s degree in civil engineering
  • Eligibility for membership in APEGA.
  • Experience with the construction and rehabilitation of an urban and rural road network.
  • Equivalent combinations education and experience may be considered.
  • A valid driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract is required.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of products.

Related Experience

  • A minimum of 7 years of progressive engineering experience in a municipal environment, including experience as a supervisor or manager and/or with training in supervision or leadership.
  • Experience with air photos and infrastructure design drawings.

OTHER RELATED DUTIES (5%)

  • Completes special projects as required.
  • Adheres to applicable responsibilities and accountabilities as outlined in the Sturgeon County Health and Safety Management System.
  • Adheres to all of Sturgeon County’s policies, bylaws, procedures and processes, as well as aligns work to the Sturgeon County values.
  • Lead compliance to regulatory body (APEGA), audit and development of professional Practice Management Plan – to maintain Permit to practice.
