POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director, Enterprise Governance, Risk Management/Chief Architect, the Manager of Enterprise Risk Management is responsible for overseeing and managing Centennial College’s risk management function. This includes identifying, assessing, monitoring and mitigating various risks that may affect the College’s operations, reputation, financial performance and compliance.
The Manager will support the growth of the Risk Management and Resilience portfolio through the development and implementation of risk management policies, procedures and best practices; ensuring alignment with the college’s strategic objectives and risk appetite. The Manager will also be tasked with building a team of direct reports to support the risk management function.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or related field. Master’s degree or professional certification in risk management is preferred. A combination of education and related experience will also be considered.
  • Nine (9) years of progressive experience in risk management or a related role, with proven leadership skills
  • Strong political acumen with the ability to negotiate with and influence others
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of risk management principles, practices, and tools.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to identify, assess and prioritize risks and develop effective solutions.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and ethical standards.
  • Demonstrated experience within a Program Management or Program Controls environment.
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating risk management training sessions.
  • Completion of or currently working towards a Project Management / Risk Management qualification is an asset. E.g., CRISC or CISA

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive risk management framework and methodology that covers all types of risks, including operational, financial, strategic, regulatory, and reputational risks
  • Conduct regular risk assessments and audits to identify, measure and evaluate potential risks and impacts
  • Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies and action plans to reduce the likelihood and severity of risk events
  • Monitor and report on risk profile and exposure of the organization; providing timely and accurate risk information and analysis to senior leadership and relevant stakeholders
  • Establish and maintain effective risk communication and awareness programs to promote a risk-aware culture
  • Review and update risk management policies, procedures, and standards to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Manage and coordinate risk management activities with internal and external auditors, regulators, and other parties as required
  • Keep abreast of emerging risk trends and issues and provide recommendations for improvement and innovation
  • Support the enterprise-wide risk assessment process, create centralized risk registers, and facilitate escalation processes
  • Lead the enterprise resiliency program by facilitating and analyzing core elements of a Business Continuity Program (BCP), such as Business Impact Analysis (BIA), Risk Analysis, Business Continuity Plan (BCP) development and drive process consistency throughout the organization (including supporting Disaster Recovery program efforts)
  • Recruit, coach, mentor, motivate and develop the Risk Management team
  • Provide IT management with a framework to build and develop systems that meet future needs and take advantage of the latest technologies.
  • Lead vendor working groups to provide direction in capabilities and technology choices.
  • Communicate broadly and deliver presentations to college wide committees, senior management and board of governors
  • Participate in the preparation and control of budgets for the risk portfolio
