Responsibilities:

WHAT YOU’LL DO

We are currently seeking an experience finance professional to fill an important maternity leave contract role as a Manager, Finance. Reporting to the Director, Finance, this role plays a critical role in managing the financial and accounting needs of the Foundation, including providing relevant and value-added financial planning, analysis and reporting to senior management.

More specifically, this role:

  • Oversees the day-to-day accounting processes, spot-checking transactions and signing off on reconciliations and journal entries.
  • Prepares monthly financial statements and ensures statements correctly present the results based on data from PeopleSoft.
  • Oversees the annual financial planning and budgeting process for the preparation and provision of timely reporting and forecasting.
  • Oversees period end closing processes to ensure accurate and timely completion.
  • Reviews the daily banking activity; support bank transfers, wires, and stop-payments when needed.
  • Provides leadership to one Accounting Assistant, providing effective coaching and mentorship.
  • Reviews monthly reconciliations of all balance sheet accounts to ensure accuracy.
  • Coordinates the annual audit, preparing all documents required by the auditor and providing complete and timely information to auditors. Assists in the creation of annual financial statements that
  • Reviews GST rebates, GST and PST filing requirements, property tax exemption applications, and other filings if needed, including the T3010 and 501©
  • Ensures appropriate financial processes and controls are in place.
  • Prepares strategic reports for management, the Board and Board Committees as required,

  • CPA accounting designation with 7 years of related experience; experience in the not-for profit sector would be considered an asset
  • Experience with PeopleSoft financial software is an asset
  • Detail-orientation with strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Strong judgment and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multifaceted projects and a capacity to perform well in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to be open-minded, non-judgmental and fair.
  • Excellent interpersonal and business communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to provide effective coaching and mentoring to staff.
  • Advanced competency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills.
  • Strong understanding of inter-fund and inter-unit accounting
  • Excellent project management skills and ability to produce quality work within tight time frames.
  • Working knowledge of current GAAP, commodity taxes and restricted fund accounting
  • Familiar with Canadian legal frameworks for corporations and charitable sector statutory requirement
