QUALIFICATIONS
Post-secondary degree in Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, or related discipline plus a minimum of 4 years extensive experience in accurately aggregating and reconciling complex financial forecasts and data. Professional Accounting Designation (CPA, CA, CGA, CMA) is an asset.
Assets include:
- In-depth understanding of accounting standards and financial presentation.
- Proficiency in government budget development, operations, and decision-making processes, including familiarity with relevant legislation.
- Experience in fiscal policy development, monitoring, and evaluation.
- Understanding of global and provincial economic trends and forecasting.
- Awareness of government priorities and adeptness in navigating the political environment.
- Skill in transparent, accurate, and strategic communication—both written and verbal—conveying complex fiscal issues and initiatives with political and broad-scope perspectives.

ABOUT THE ROLE:
As the Manager, Fiscal Planning & Reporting, you will play a crucial role in compiling and analyzing complex financial data within Alberta’s fiscal framework. Reporting to the Director of Fiscal Planning & Reporting, you will assist with providing vital financial insights and strategic advice to senior officials, including the Deputy Minister, Minister and Treasury Board, as well as other government bodies., and. You will assist with leading the preparation of Alberta’s fiscal plan, manage the creation of fiscal updates, and ensure the accuracy of financial reports under tight deadlines. Your expertise will help guide decision-making, influence policy, and support the broader goals of Alberta’s Treasury Board and Finance.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
In this dynamic and challenging position, your key responsibilities will include:
- Public Fiscal Reporting: Conduct the timely and accurate preparation, review, and publication of Alberta’s fiscal reports (budget, quarterly updates, year-end reports). Ensure compliance with legislated deadlines.
Consolidated Fiscal Planning: Assist in preparing call memos, consolidating ministry submissions, and reviewing financial data to support Alberta’s fiscal outlook and updates. Provide strategic recommendations on changes to fiscal policy, accounting
standards, and fiscal frameworks.
Financial Analysis and Strategic Advice: Provide expert advice on fiscal issues, conducting in-depth financial analysis to support senior officials. Prepare briefings, presentations, and reports for the Minister and Deputy Minister on fiscal matters.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with internal and external stakeholders, including Alberta’s Treasury Board, the Office of the Controller, and other ministries, to support the fiscal planning process and identify potential risks and opportunities.
- Training and Development: Provide training and guidance to divisional analysts and ministry finance branch officials on complex financial reporting requirements and ensure consistent processes across ministries.
