Functional knowledge - A disaster recovery manager (DRM) is key responsible for developing, implementing, and managing an organization’s disaster recovery (DR) plan. This plan is crucial for ensuring that the organization can quickly resume critical operations following a disruption. Here are key areas of functional knowledge that a DRM should possess:

Key responsibilities:

  • Risk Assessment: Personal ability to identify potential risks that could impact business operations
  • Business Impact Analysis (BIA): Responsibility for evaluating the effects of disruptions on different business processes.
  • Plan Development: Creating comprehensive global DR plans that address different types of disasters (natural, technological, human-made).
  • Recovery Strategies: Formulating strategies for data recovery, system restoration, and business continuity.
  • Backup Solutions: Knowledge of data backup methods and technologies (cloud, offsite storage).
  • IT Systems Knowledge: Deep understanding of the organization’s IT infrastructure, including hardware, software, networks, and databases.
  • Virtualization and Cloud Computing: Familiarity with virtual environments and cloud-based DR solutions.
  • Data Replication and Redundancy: Techniques for data mirroring and ensuring redundancy to minimize data loss.
  • Incident Response: Procedures for immediate response to disasters, including communication protocols and first response actions.
  • Crisis Management: Skills to manage crisis situations, coordinate with emergency services, and ensure the safety of personnel.
  • DR Testing: Planning and conducting regular DR tests (e.g., tabletop exercises, simulation tests) to ensure effectiveness.
  • Plan Review and Updates: Regularly updating the DR plan to reflect changes in the business environment, technology, and identified risks.

Key requirements:

  • University Bachelor degree or equivalent knowledge through experience Information Technology
  • Disaster Recover Certified Specialist (DRCS)
  • Network/Storage/Hypervisor/Security
  • The position requires a person with Conflict ability, quick analytical skills, technical understanding and networked thinking, solution-oriented/ready for realization and to integrate into a growing team.
