Description:

Sensata seeks a Manager, Classification Center of Excellence, Global Trade Compliance (GTC) to lead the company’s global Harmonized System (HS) and ECCN (Export Control Classification Number) classification process. This position will build and lead a team of specialists to ensure that all items moving across borders in Sensata’s name are properly classified: building efficient processes, and defining KPI’s to track the team’s effectiveness. This role will act as an interface to both internal engineers and Customs authorities to collect goods’ attribute information and finalize the HS code. This role will work closely with the regional GTC teams, engineers, logistics, finance, and corporate audit functions; and may work with external consultants and legal counsel on HS code classification disputes when necessary. This team is also expected to evolve into free-trade agreement analysis and LTSD.

Job Responsibilities

  • Establish Sensata GTC Center of Excellence (COE) for HS Classification: hiring and managing personnel, documenting procedures, and tracking Key Performance Indicators.
  • Closely cooperate with the GTC organization, internal functions, external service providers such as customs brokers, and Sensata businesses to design, deploy, and maintain an effective global HS Classification procedure that is globally aligned.
  • Prepare, review and update to maintain the internal database of classification attributes and other supporting documents such as customs rulings etc. as the justification of the classification results.
  • Study and analyze WCO and business locations’ latest Customs related tariff policy and work out the impact to the company business.
  • Collaborate with Regional Trade Compliance Managers and teams of other regions, understanding and respecting classification and tariff related regulatory requirements, work out improvement process or solution to find reasonable cost saving to the company while enabling compliant imports and exports of products between countries and regions.
  • Conduct HS classification trainings and knowledge sharing sessions to improve business knowledge and operational performance.
  • Manage all HS classification disputes and (potential) non-compliance cases, cost analysis, remediation, and counter measures.
  • Performs external benchmarking and networking to identify and implement best practices on HS classification for the company.
  • Manage and develop the skills of the Classification Specialists, logistics and other classifiers in the operating countries.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution required; advanced degree or degree in internal trade is a plus; experience in lieu of a degree will be considered.
  • At least 8 years working experience in HS classification; HS classification certification is a plus; experience working through classification disputes with Customs authorities is a plus; ECCN classification and free-trade agreement experience a plus.
  • At least 5 years managerial experience; experience building teams from scratch is a plus; leading classification teams is a plus.
  • English fluency, both oral and written, is required; additional languages are a plus.
  • Engineering background and ability to interpret technical drawings are a plus.
  • Travel will be rare, but may be occasionally required.
