Description:

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist in promoting safety culture, continuous improvement, compliance and implementation of corporate OHSMS programs, practices, including Job Hazard Analysis, Safe Work Practices and Safe Job Procedures.
  • Assist in monitoring and maintain COR and ISO certifications as applicable through adherence and compliance with specific qualifying requirements and reporting obligations.
  • Provide guidance and support to project teams (superintendents, project managers, field engineers, project coordinators and other personnel) on health and safety matters.
  • Gather information relative to regulatory requirements, industry standards, and best practices to aid in the development of policies, procedures, and programs to ensure compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Coordinate and maintain the project specific OHSMS, including employee/subcontractor worker/visitor orientation completion and training renewal requirements.
  • Coordinate or conduct incident investigations; prepare reports and make recommendations for corrective actions; track and follow-up on recommendations and/or assigned tasks.
  • Work with managers and /or project superintendents and supervisors to ensure hazard assessments and job demands analyses and safety and emergency response plans are prepared and maintained.
  • Act as a resource to the Joint Health & Safety Committee(s), including participating in meetings; preparing agendas; taking and distributing minutes; coordinating, participating and tracking HSE inspections and corrective/preventative actions; and providing reference materials.
  • If required, act as a liaison with third parties (i.e., emergency services, local municipality, police, etc., on safety matters relating to respective project).
  • Produce reports and statistical information.
  • Proactively identify and prevent hazardous situations and take necessary measures to correct/prevent them.
  • Prepare Project Safety Plans and Emergency Response Plans ensuring they are current and communicated to all project personnel.
  • Assist with evaluation and monitoring of subcontractors’ safety performance to ensure compliance with applicable legislation.
  • Perform EHS project/workplace site inspections and submit to the project management team.
  • Participate in the review of new operations, processes and procedures (as well as proposed changes to existing operations) at the proposal and/or design phase to ensure health & safety and compliance matters are considered and incorporated.

EDUCATIONAL AND PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in a related OHS discipline
  • 3-5 years’ experience in Occupational Health & Safety and knowledge of applicable legislation; construction H&S industry strongly preferred.
  • COR certification and designation maintenance experience is an asset.
  • Experience with MNRF, MOE and DFO permitting is an asset
  • Proficiency with the management of ISNetworld Safety Services
  • In-depth knowledge of industry safety standards and regulations.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), BlueBeam or Adobe Acrobat
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to travel throughout Ontario for work-related purposes.
