MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business management, business administration or a related field
7+ years of human resources, development and alumni relations or related experience
Experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems such as Workday
Higher education industry experience, SHRM certification, and a master’s degree preferred

Responsibilities:
JOB PURPOSE:
The HR Manager for Development & Alumni Relations is a strategic advisor who implements talent and organizational plans that support culture, diversity, inclusion, employee engagement, and professional development. The incumbent drives HR-related activities for DAR that align with the overall talent and organizational strategy in performance management, talent development, succession planning, employee onboarding, and new hire assimilation. The Senior HR Generalist ensures compliance with all HR policies and practices, legislative and regulatory requirements, and other applicable policies and guidelines to align with DAR’s and Howard University’s strategic plan, mission, and vision.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Engage proactively and strategically with leaders and HR expert leaders (e.g., HR Operations, Leadership & Development, Compensation, Employee Engagement, and Talent Management) to ensure DAR can hire, develop, and retain top talent
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks, and ensuring regulatory compliance
- Serve as the HR liaison and point of contact for the Director of Administration.
- Demonstrate an understanding of and response to complex business environment scenarios, which align talent with business strategies and goals; identify partnership opportunities with DAR and HR
- Interpret university, HR and DAR policies and procedures
- Leverage leading practices and data to support and advise DAR on all areas of HR including hiring decisions, promotion, compensation, training, professional development
- Coordinate related recruitment efforts including evaluating applications, interviewing applicants, advertising position vacancies within locally, and nationally through a variety of recruitment sources
- Attend seminars, job fairs, and other professional networking affiliate events to create interest, candidate pipeline and sourcing opportunities
- Keep abreast of new and updated standards and regulations related to staffing, networking and employment
- Perform other related responsibilities as requested and when necessary
