Description:

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Provision of own vehicle for Board business.
  • Requires travel to TDSB sites on a regular basis.Requires wearing safety equipment (e.g. safety shoes, hard hats) when visiting construction sites.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team comprised of In House Project Supervisors, Assistant Project Supervisors, trades staff, Operations Coordinator to achieve maximum efficiency and productivity to ensure successful delivery of In-House maintenance projects;
  • Responsible for the supervision of staff, including hiring, training, motivation, facilitate team building and support professional learning;
  • Prepare performance reviews and evaluations, set performance objectives, provide solutions and feedback to enhance performance, and determine disciplinary action where appropriate;
  • Oversee, analyse and monitor account assignment and budget utilization on the Enterprise Resource Planning System (SAP) for in-house construction projects;
  • Administer the production of budget and cost estimates for in house projects during the development phase;
  • Ensure deadlines are met for cost and scheduling reporting submissions;
  • Produce and analyse performance reports including trends and forecasts;
  • Assist the Senior Manager in monitoring the business performance of the in-house unit;
  • Develop and maintain established construction schedules;
  • Schedule project delivery with project stakeholders based on operational requirements;
  • Monitor the approved budget and take remedial action as required;
  • Attend regularly scheduled meetings with management staff and direct reports;
  • Co -ordinate work with other Facility Services units such as Design & Renewal, Operations and Maintenance, and TDSB departments (e.g. Purchasing);
  • Promote safe work practices to ensure health and safety of staff and students, in compliance with applicable legislation (e.g., Occupational Health and Safety Act and Workplace Safety and Insurance Act);
  • Investigate and provide opportunities for modified work and follow up on the implementation of WSIB procedures;
  • Provide leadership in fostering equity and inclusiveness in the development and implementation of programs and services; and
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • University degree in Engineering or Architecture with six years of progressively responsible related construction experience for a large, multi-site, unionized employer, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Registered member with the Ontario Association of Architects or Professional Engineers of Ontario;
  • Experience working with all disciplines (architectural, mechanical, electrical, structural and cost consultants);
  • Experience in project management methodologies, schedule control and cost control;
  • Ability to assess cost estimates by in-house trades;
  • Thorough understanding of building components and construction;
  • Knowledge of relevant government regulations (e.g., Ontario Building Code, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Labour Relations Act);
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with staff, clients and internal/external organizations and effective interpersonal skills;
  • Successful supervisory experience including leadership, mentoring and team building skills;
  • Conflict resolution and mediation skills;
  • Knowledge and understanding of related Board policies, procedures and relevant Collective Agreement provisions;
  • Successful experience monitoring large budgets and ability to ensure construction planning meets approved budgets and deadlines;
  • Experience undertaking cost estimates for documentation provided by consultants prior to tendering;
  • Ability to interact with contractors to provide construction clarification as required;
  • Proven ability in promoting equitable practices which value inclusiveness and diversity; and
  • Computer skills including spreadsheets, databases, word processing, presentation packages, computerized maintenance management system, SAP Project Systems, SAP Plant Maintenance, GIS systems and email.
