Reporting to the Senior Manager, Investment Accounting, this role is responsible for managing a team of accounting professionals, consolidating and interpreting investment business unit financial information and producing key financial statement note disclosures. This role involves significant collaboration and coordination with the broader Corporate Finance group, the investment business unit finance teams and investment operations. We have recently transitioned to a new ERP system – Oracle Cloud - and are invested in leveraging all available tools to increase the efficiency of our reporting processes. The incumbent will demonstrate expertise in accounting, financial reporting and internal controls, finance system literacy and team leadership. The person who fills this role will be a key member of the OMERS Corporate Finance team. Our ambitions are high: we aim to be the best corporate finance team in the Canadian pension industry.

Responsibilities:

AS A MEMBER OF THIS TEAM, YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

Coordinating timelines and deliverables from investment business units on a monthly, and semi-annual basis to facilitate the accounting close cycle.
Supporting the team to reconcile inbound automated data from the investment business units and to consolidate the monthly financial results.
Preparation of key notes to the OMERS consolidated financial statements related to investments and derivatives, including reconciliation to MD&A.
Overseeing the preparation of regulatory reporting.
Drafting and providing input and research into accounting policies
Developing a collaborative relationship with key stakeholders, including business partners and external auditors.
Continuous learning and understanding of OMERS’ investment strategies and transactions; applying learnings to the OMERS financial statements.
Identifying opportunities for operational improvements and leveraging automation tools to continuously improve the control environment and efficiency of recurring processes.
Leading and developing a team of professional accountants, strengthening culture and community, excellence and expertise, both collectively and individually.
Participating in opportunities to develop technical and leadership skills to advance the Corporate Finance team.

TO SUCCEED IN THIS ROLE, YOU HAVE:

5+ years’ experience in a management role applying reporting, accounting and control skills in a financial services environment and overseeing a team
Post-secondary degree in business, accounting, or finance with a CPA designation.
Understanding of IFRS accounting standards particularly as they relate to investments and financial instruments.
Strong problem-solving skills and eagerness to identify and implement new processes for operational efficiency; coupled with a strong accounting acumen.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to present a clear perspective while being considerate of the audience.
Attention to detail when preparing and reviewing work, and an ability to see the impacts on a bigger picture.
Experience with Oracle (including ARCS) and Workiva would be an asset.
