Salary: $80,000 - $110,000 based on experience

JOB OVERVIEW:

We are seeking a skilled Manager of Labour and Employee Relations to oversee and manage all aspects of people matters within our organization. As the Labour and Employee Relations Manager, you will be responsible for managing a team of two HR Business Partners and maintaining positive relations between the company and its employees, ensuring compliance with relevant labour laws and regulations, and fostering a productive work environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Business Administration, Law, or a related field.
  • Proven experience at least 2-3 years as a Labour Relations Manager, preferably in contracted services, manufacturing or other multi-union industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of Canadian labour laws, human rights, employment legislation and regulations.
  • Strong negotiation, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience managing and coaching team members.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Proficiency in HRIS systems (Dayforce would be an asset) and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Must possess a class 5 driver’s license and own a reliable vehicle

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience with interpreting and applying collective agreements.
  • Previous bargaining and contract negotiations.
  • Familiarity with grievance, mediation and arbitration processes.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement labour relations strategies and policies that align with the organization’s goals and objectives.
  • Provide guidance and support to the HRBP team, managers and supervisors on performance-related matters including, conflict management, coaching, feedback, and disciplinary action.
  • Act as the primary point of contact or subject matter expert for all labour relations matters, including negotiations, grievances, and arbitrations.
  • Lead negotiations with union representatives on collective bargaining agreements and other labour-related issues.
  • Provide guidance and support to HRBP team, management and employees on labour relations matters, including interpretation of collective agreements and labour legislation.
  • Support and/or participate in the investigation and resolution of grievances and disputes in a fair and timely manner, promoting conflict resolution and maintaining positive employee relations.
  • Stay informed about changes in labour laws and regulations and ensure company compliance.
  • Collaborate with HR, legal counsel, and senior management to develop strategies for managing labour-related risks and issues.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and other communications related to labour relations for senior management and stakeholders.
