You will be part of the team to organise and manage NLB libraries’ knowledge resources by applying the processes of bibliographic/metadata resource descriptions (physical and digital) and subject assignment to enable efficient and effective browsing, searching and retrieval of the myriad range of NLB resources in support of the varied learning and information needs for a wide spectrum of library patrons.
[What you will be working on]
- Cataloguing of English and one mother tongue language (i.e. Chinese or Malay or Tamil) materials in all formats (physical and digital) using international cataloguing and encoding standards.
- Perform data management using open-source tools such as MARCedit, OpenRefine as well as Excel and other tools, combined with scripting, to ensure standards are adhered to and discovery is optimised
- Develop in-depth knowledge and keep abreast of new developments in cataloguing rules and data management via cataloguing communities and related professional practitioner groups.
- Support systems infrastructure including via machine learning or artificial intelligence to facilitate effective metadata input and use, including use cases, requirements and data preparation.
- Combining practical and theoretical knowledge of library practice and the underlying principles with technical expertise to review cataloguing processes and explore opportunities for batch processing, enhancement, or automation.
- Independently diagnose/resolve technical problems, articulate and discuss solutions with peers in a confident manner in order to provide the best solution.
- Analyse information requirements relating to digital library services and assist with documentation of system specifications to meet those needs.
[What we are looking for]
- Preferably 2 years of relevant experience in library work with knowledge on cataloguing tools and resources.
- Able to read and write in English and one mother tongue language (Chinese or Malay or Tamil).
- Preferably 2 years of data wrangling experience.
- Familiarity with scripting languages. Python is preferred.
- Knowledge of cataloguing and metadata standards including MARC and Dublin Core, BIBFRAME and RDA, and data interchange formats such as XML and JSON preferred.
- Ability to work in a collaborative environment with colleagues, management, and partners.
