MECHANICAL ENGINEERING MANAGER

Location: The Netherlands, Alphen aan den Rijn
Compensation: In line with Plug NL salary scales. Department Manager level (T4 equivalent as per Engineering Career path)

POSITION SUMMARY

The Mechanical Engineering Manager is a people leader, responsible for guiding and directing the team. Furthermore, monitoring the tasks in relation to planning and technical feasibility of orders. The manager also takes care of the development & wellbeing of the team members.
The team members work in joint teams with members from across the globe (US, India) so frequent interaction and alignment with US and India engineering management is required.

LEVEL OF EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in relevant discipline, or relevant work experience.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years relevant mechanical engineering experience in product development or project execution
  • Minimum two (2) years of direct supervisory experience
    The requirements may not apply if the applicant has acquired an equivalent level through experience.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • VCA/ VOL certificate or willing to get the VCA/ VOL certificate.
  • Speak English at a professional level.
  • Excellent communication and social skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a variety of cultural backgrounds and personalities in a dynamic organisation.

Responsibilities:

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the department’s continuous improvement, setting and meeting objectives and integration of lessons learned.
  • Responsible for the engineering and working methods within own Discipline; application in consultation with the Director of Engineering and/or fellow Engineering managers (Process, Electrical & Instrumentation).
  • Responsible for the requirements of department’s standards, tools, and software.
  • Ensure the team has the right processes and tools to meet business objectives
  • Responsible for resource capacity management within own discipline, in line with organization requirements.
  • Partner with Head(s) of Departments in India and the US to align on the global and local assignment of resources.
  • Responsible for on-time escalation to of issues/needs to Director of Engineering.
  • Secure working methods in accordance with the Quality and Safety Management Systems.
  • Ensure the knowledge and skills of employees and the team in general is at an appropriate level to address the department’s & company’s goals. Coach, mentor, motivate and develop employees to ensure this will be achieved.
  • Human resource optimization: Attract and retain the best talent.
  • Talent development: Share career path definitions, job descriptions, leadership development of functional leaders, coach team members and develop training plans.
  • Facilitate conflict resolution.
  • Perform regular check-in & performance evaluation conversations with team members to ensure their work is aligned with company and functional objectives as well as to help ensure the well-being of the team members.
  • Develop and administer, in partnership with Human Resources, performance improvement plans.

TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES REGARDING QUALITY, HEALTH, SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENT (QHSE)

  • Complete required training courses
  • Follow appropriate personal HSE measures (e.g., utilize Personal Protective Equipment)
  • Cooperate on quality, health, safety, environment, and security improvements
  • Report incidents of potential danger, accidents, near misses, damage, fire, spills
  • Engage in and model behaviors aligned with Company Policies and Code of Conduct
  • Follow Project and Company QHSE procedures/work instructions and Policies
  • Report and prevent deviations, Non-Conformance, and complaints.
