Reporting to the Director, Merchandise Excellence, the Merchandising and Supplier Communications Manager is accountable for developing the strategy and leading the execution of internal (merchandising associate) and external (Walmart Canada supplier) communications. Deliverables are met by working alongside the Director of Merchandise Excellence and senior Merchandising leaders (including the Chief Merchandising Officer) and cross-functionally with other Walmart divisions within market and globally. The incumbent is a thought-leader, excellent communicator at all levels of the business, highly detailed-oriented, and demonstrates a sense of urgency to ensure the right information gets to the right associates/partners at the right time

1) Partner with senior merchandising leadership team and cross-functional leads to define a communication strategy, guardrails, and master calendar of internal and external communications to support the successful execution of strategic projects and other merchant and supplier-impacting activities. Ensure communication programs are delivered on time, are appropriate and effective for the intended audience, and consist of high-quality content (cohesive, comprehendible, actionable).
2) Lead the Merchandising organization’s strategic communication programs including end-to-end advisory, planning, and execution activities. Assess the delta between current and future state ways of working then develop and execute a change management, communication, and enablement plan to ensure leaders are empowered to support the change and associates have the requisite knowledge to perform their jobs. Define needs and develop solutions to support new/updated ways of working and organizational change initiatives, including all supporting communications, online and in-person training, and other key resources.
3) Produce semi-weekly newsletters and monthly Merchandising townhalls and SPARK meetings with the primary goal of informing, aligning, and enabling merchants and cross-functional merchandising teams so they can contribute to the execution of the merchandising organization’s strategic goals. Partner with senior merchandising leadership team, including the Chief Merchandising Officer, to determine themes, scope, and agenda for meetings and develop the content (presential materials, videos, multimedia) while leading cross-functional subject matter experts and contributors. On a frequently and ongoing basis, coach associates to develop their ability to present and convey information effectively to broad audiences in preparation for SPARK meetings, Merchandising Townhalls, and internal/external conferences.
4) Share communications best practices and develop the communication skills of Merchandising associates and leaders. Develop training, templates, and assets to provide associates with self-service solutions and toolkits while acting as the subject matter expert for communication ‘tools of the trade’, including web platforms such as Adobe Experience Manager and SharePoint, Spark Notifications, video production/authoring, and social media. Create best practices and standards while sourcing technologies and tools to make the process for creating, managing, and evaluating content. Partner with Walmart US teams and international markets to leverage and source the best processes and systems for the distribution of supplier-facing content.
5)In partnership with the Director, Merchandise Excellence, lead the Merchandising team on all efforts in support of Walmart Canada’s corporate events, including the annual Year Beginning Meeting and Supplier Growth Forum. Assess and define the needs of the primary audiences and lead the development of all Merchandising deliverables in support of these corporate events. Guide cross-functional teams, support partners, vendors, and Merchandising leaders to ensure deliverables (presentation content, keynote speeches, support materials, and project plans) are aligned with the organization’s strategic areas of focus and delivered on time and within budget.
6)Manage the Supplier Information Manual and vendor onboarding content to ensure new and existing suppliers have access to Walmart’s latest information and policies in a clear and simple format. Hold subject matter experts and cross-functional leads accountable in ensuring critical supplier information is updated in a timely manner and communicated accordingly to the supplier community and internal stakeholders. Proactively engage Legal to assess any risks to external-facing information prior to publication.
