Wing Kei is an innovative, caring, and resourceful provider of culturally-appropriate Seniors Care in Calgary. We are a Christian, not-for-profit charitable organization that exists to create nurturing programs and services that supports the families in our community. Since opening in 2005, we have flourished with the loyal support of a like-minded community of government, funders, partners, and donors. Our high-in-demand services include long term care, supportive living, and an adult day program.
Our partners and donors have contributed significantly to Wing Kei’s growth throughout the past 20 years of operation. We are proud of the relationships that we have built with our partners and donors, and they have trusted us to care for our residents. As Wing Kei continues to grow with a new facility currently in the building phase, we are planning to expand our fund development and community engagement activities. This new position, the Manager of Community Relations & Fund Development, is created to lead our efforts in this endeavor.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

All Wing Kei leaders are personally accountable for their own integrity, effectiveness, contributions, and continued professional growth. You will demonstrate, promote and advocate the Wing Kei vision, mission and core values in day-to-day operations.

Key responsibilities of the Manager of Community Relations & Fund Development include:

  • In consultation with the Director of Finance and Corporate Services, develops a comprehensive annual resource development plan.
  • Is aware of fundraising trends and works towards broadening for fund development which are well suited to Wing Kei’s Mission and values.
  • Leads and mentors the Fund Development team, promoting the Wing Kei culture of staff engagement and a positive workplace.
  • Creates and implements strategies for donor development.
  • Direct campaign activities including organization of campaign-related meetings and data administration.
  • Research and write grant applications, while developing knowledge and expertise on success factors for various applications.
  • Manage fundraising and related events, promoting to appropriate partners, communities and corporations, and participate in Wing Kei events.
  • In consultation with the CEO, direct and manage internal and external communications strategies and plans that advance the capital campaign to key volunteers, community partners, potential donors and employees.
  • Manage donor database access and keep stored user information up-to-date.
  • Maintain professionalism, diplomacy and effectiveness when collaborating with sponsors and vendors.

THE INDIVIDUAL WHO WILL SUCCEED

  • Is aligned with and actively demonstrates Wing Kei’s vision and mission.
  • Has an undergraduate degree in a related field (i.e. , Public Relations, Non-profit management, or Business).
  • Is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) or other fund development organizations, and/or certifications in areas such as fund development, fundraising, event management or grant writing are definite assets.
  • Has a minimum of 5 years of related experience, including 1 year of supervisory experience, preferably in fund development/public relations/marketing areas of a non-profit organization.
  • Possesses high ethical standards and professionalism; can represent Wing Kei in an exemplary manner.
  • Results-oriented, possesses skills to oversee all activities for special events to reach Wing Kei’s fund development goals.
  • Innovative, with proven track record in seeking sources for funding successfully.
  • Has excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to connect, liaise and build relationships both within the organization and externally.
  • Communicates in an authentic, engaging manner when speaking, writing or presenting.
  • Proficient in managing multiple projects; including ability to handle unexpected events or requests with professionalism.
  • Dependable when working independently.
  • Stays positive and perseveres through the challenges of fund development.
  • Proficiency in computer skills, especially in Microsoft Office; aptitude in documentation and database management skills preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English; the ability to communicate in Chinese a definite asset.
