Description:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Organizational Development, IO Psychology, Instructional Design, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in leading and developing learning and development initiatives.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in team leadership.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with both the design and delivery of both instructor-led and web-based learning and development programs.
  • Experience in healthcare strongly preferred.
  • Career focused on Learning and Development and Human Resources within large, complex organizations.

  • Evident business acumen required, with an understanding of the competencies, needs, and key factors associated with achieving business goals and objectives.
  • Collaborative leadership style, with the ability to understand the needs of diverse stakeholders and influence to achieve common goals.
  • Strong decision-making abilities demonstrated by the capability to define situations, evaluate options, and recommend solutions with subject matter experts and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated project/program management experience.

Responsibilities:

POSITION PURPOSE

The Manager, Learning and Development will lead our company’s strategy for learning and development, encompassing both leadership and non-leader talent development. The scope includes hospital employees, home office staff, and leaders across all locations. This role will be based in Birmingham, AL and report to the VP of Organizational Development and be a key member of the Organizational Development leadership team, recognized as the ambassador for all things related to learning and development.
This role assesses needs, designing, developing, and measuring the impact of company learning and development initiatives and strategies that impact stakeholders in all areas of the business. This position consults with company leadership and SMEs to define and lead team in designing effective programs that support company goals and enhance talent. This role manages consultant and vendor relationships. This position oversees the L&D budget, as well as execution of leadership and development programs specifically designed for executives at the hospital and home office. Additionally, the role manages the L&D Team.

RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive learning and development strategy aligned with Encompass Health’s goals.
  • Design and manage leadership development programs to cultivate future leaders within the organization.
  • Coordinate training initiatives for non-leader roles to enhance skills and drive performance.
  • Collaborate with hospital and home office departments to identify learning needs and create tailored development plans.
  • Utilize innovative approaches and technologies to deliver effective training experiences.
  • Monitor and assess the effectiveness of training programs, adjusting as necessary to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Reposition and elevate the Learning and Development organization, showing how its successes can be measured in helping Encompass Health support its employees and leaders in achieving strategic and operational goals.
  • Design and deliver leadership development programs, such as hospital CEO development programs, to enhance the capabilities of current and future leaders to fill critical leadership roles.
  • Own, evaluate and continuously improve our leadership coaching program and personally provide coaching support to leaders, helping them develop their leadership skills and address complex organizational challenges.
  • Lead the team in innovative thinking to create, curate, and continuously improve learning and development programs and content based on the company’s strategy.
  • Manage the learning and development team, partnering with the VP of Organizational Development to assess the current learning and development strategy and ensure alignment with enterprise goals and defined metrics.
  • This position must sit at our home office in Birmingham, Alabama.
