We serve approximately 22,000 students at 37 elementary, middle, and high schools. Approximately 55% of students come from homes where English is not the primary language spoken. Combined, our students and families speak over 75 different languages and hail from 91 countries of origin. This is an outstanding opportunity for an education leader with experience working with Multilingual Learners in an urban setting. The Manager of Multilingual Learner Instruction will work closely with the District Administrative teams to support the transformation of public education in Providence. The Manager of Multilingual Learner Instruction will be primarily responsible for supporting the implementation of quality MLL services that will result in positive academic achievement for all Multilingual Learners. The Manager of Multilingual Learner Instruction will provide direct support to schools to ensure each complies with federal and state laws, regulations and policies pertaining to MLLs.
Successful candidates must demonstrate a deep belief in the capacity of ALL students to achieve at high levels and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse set of partners and stakeholders to drive transformative change within and outside of an organization. To succeed in this role, you must have a strong background in Multilingual Learner pedagogy and research based practice, you must have extensive experience working with the following MLL subgroups: Students with Limited or Interrupted Formal Education, Dually Identified students, Long Term MLLs, you must have proven experience using coaching as a tool to drive high and equitable educational outcomes, you must exhibit strong leadership, be a master communicator, and have a track record of successfully collaborating with a large number of adults. Successful candidates must also possess a high level of comfort with ambiguity and the willingness to seek new solutions to old problems.

EDUCATION TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s degree in TESOL or applicable field of education
  • Rhode Island Building Level Administrator and/ or District Level Administrator Certification
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience directly serving Multilingual Learners
  • At least two (2) years of leadership experience (including but not limited to coaching, resource/content specialist).

RIDE CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Building Level Admin PK-12
  • ESL, Dual-Language or Bilingual Ed Certification

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS STANDARDS:

  • Multilingual candidate in at least one of the district’s major languages preferred (Spanish, Swahili, Arabic, Khmer, Portuguese, Creole)
  • Ability to use English Language Proficiency Standards in conjunction with CCSS to support the development of academic proficiency for Multilingual Learners
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Successful experience working with diverse populations
  • Demonstrated ability to use, interpret, and analyze data to accelerate student achievement
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues, district and school-based administrators, and consultants and effectively lead teams
  • Ability to design, deliver, and coordinate high quality professional development in a variety of venues
  • Ability to effectively use research to guide decision-making and planning
  • Demonstrated proficiency with PC-based computer applications, Microsoft Office applications, e-mail, google applications, web applications, and industry-specific technology

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct support to school staff (including but not limited to teachers, coaches, coordinators, related service providers, and administrators)
  • Identify and assist in the development of systems for ongoing teacher support; provide direct assistance to school staff through lesson demonstration, observation, constructive feedback and coaching
  • Facilitate the implementation of research-based best practices and instructional strategies designed to meet clearly identified needs of Multilingual Learners
  • Design and facilitate district-level and school-based professional development activities that are aligned with district and school-wide reform efforts
  • Collaborate with appropriate district-level and school-based staff to ensure accurate program placement for students
  • Ensure appropriate implementation of MLL programs
  • Support with the expansion of Bilingual/ Dual Language programs in the district
  • Support with the development and improvement of MLL data systems
  • Participate in the collection, analysis, interpretation and use of data to identify learning needs for Multilingual Learners
  • Support planning for and monitoring of the administration of district, state, and federal assessments as required
  • Complete school and department commitments in a timely manner
  • Facilitate the engagement of both external and internal stakeholders in district and school-wide reform efforts
  • Support district and school wide efforts to increase MLL family engagement
  • Attend all district and school–level meetings as required
  • Perform all other duties as assigned
