Description:
QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree in environmental science, environmental management, or environmental engineering from an accredited educational institution. An equivalent combination of education and other accredited degree programs may be considered.
- Registered member of the Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC) or Applied Science of Technologists and Technicians of British Columbia (ASTTBC).
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in a related role, preferably in local and/or regional government.
- Minimum of one (1) year experience in a supervisory role.
- Completion of the WorkSafeBC Supervising for Safety training.
- Ability to pass and maintain a criminal record check.
- Valid BC Driver’s Licence.
The salary range for this position $101,923.78 to $118,157.59 (2024 range)

Responsibilities:
- Manages the Solid Waste branch and coordinates the required resources to carry out the policies, programs and projects approved by the Board and the division senior manager.
- Collaborates with other branch managers to achieve overall strategic goals, programs and projects and to ensure a coordinated effort in the provision of services.
- Recommends bylaws, policies, procedures and prudent practices to the division senior manager and participates in the development implementation and evaluation to meet the needs of the RDOS.
- Contributes, oversees and administers the annual operating budgets of the Solid Waste branch including long-term financial plans.
- Conducts reviews of facilities, programs and services to ensure they are operating efficiently and economically.
- Recruits, hires, coaches, manages and evaluates direct reporting staff.
- Accountable for ensuring employees in the Solid Waste branch are made aware of all known or reasonably foreseeable health or safety hazards and adhere to the Regional District’s Occupational Health & Safety Program for compliance with WorkSafeBC.
- Conducts research and assesses Regional District capacity to deliver and manage initiatives, programs and services for the Electoral Areas and makes recommendations to the division senior manager regarding opportunities.
- Establishes a customer focused approach for the branch operations that is consistent with the corporate customer excellence strategy.
- Researches, applies for and coordinates available grants and makes recommendations to the division senior manager on grant opportunities.
- Prepares and monitors the annual operating budgets related to the Solid Waste branch as approved by the department senior manager.
- Provides information to the Board on matters of interest to the Regional District within the responsibility of the Solid Waste branch.
- Works with the Purchasing Manager to ensure that all purchasing policies are consistently followed.
- Participates as a member of the Emergency Management Team as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
