Description:

A vacancy currently exists in the Cape Region for a Manager: Park Planning. The successful candidate will provide environmental planning support to Cape Region in accordance with corporate policy, approved planning and environmental management systems/plans and norms, standards and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable legislation.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Degree in Urban / Regional / Environmental/ Conservation Planning or related equivalent qualification, Honors Degree would be an added advantage
  • Qualification in Law would be an added advantage
  • Five – Eight (5-8) years of experience in environmental or related planning at a management level
  • Knowledge of relevant national/provincial/municipal planning/environmental legislation
  • A working knowledge of computer software packages such as Microsoft Office
  • Be in possession of a valid Code 08/10 driver’s license

Responsibilities:

  • Management of the Planning Department:
  • Supervise and manage the park planning department
  • Strategic Park Planning:
  • Ensure that the Conservation Development Framework and Park Zonation as required by NEMPAA is updated, approved and implemented;
  • Planning for visitor and tourism sites.
  • External planning:
  • Provide input into and comment on municipal spatial development and related frameworks;
  • Provide input into and comment on land use planning exercises and EIA processes in adjoining urban areas.
  • Database and Information Systems:
  • Ensure the development and maintenance of a comprehensive database that will enable the improved management and understanding of the Parks.
  • Park expansion and land consolidation:
  • Ensure that a strategic plan for the expansion and consolidation of the Parks is compiled and implemented;
  • Liaise with the Park Planning Department regarding property and related Park planning matters.
  • Strategic planning and support:
  • Liaise closely with management regarding the development and implementation of various park plans and projects;
  • Advise the managers on planning-related matters;
  • Provide planning input to high-level, strategic Park issues.
  • Legal matters:
  • Provide planning-related legal advice on land and environmental matters to Park management;
  • Liaise with the Legal Services Department regarding legal, planning and land matters.
  • Draft, review and interpretation of Memoranda of Understanding
