The Opportunity
Join our dynamic and diverse People and Culture team as a Manager, Payroll Services, Compensation and Reporting and make a mark as the subject matter expert in all things compensation. This role supports the goal to bring our process to be best in class through data-driven decisions and advice. As a leader at Keyano College, you would be fostering a collaborative, efficient environment, and building strong stakeholder relationships. This role offers the opportunity to shape and mentor the Payroll Team and Sr. Analyst People & Culture, driving institutional growth and development.
Note: This is not a remote or hybrid work opportunity, you will be required to work on campus and relocate to Fort McMurray, AB.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor the Payroll Team and the Analyst, People and Culture, ensuring alignment with institutional goals.
  • Provide expert advice on compensation, payroll, benefits, and HR reporting to the People & Culture team and the College leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with payroll, benefits, pension and employment standards legislation and implement strategic policies.
  • Maintain and update compensation and payroll guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Address inquiries and resolve issues from internal and external stakeholders including auditors
  • Execute full pay cycle administration and reconcile financial reports
  • Lead the payroll, pension and benefits administration, ensuring necessary adjustments and reporting are completed with accuracy and in compliance with collective agreements terms, labor laws and other applicable regulations
  • Manage compensation practices, addressing inequities and maintaining compliance by updating compensation framework and processes.
  • Develop and maintain time and attendance policies and process.
  • Provide accurate and timely reporting by leveraging business intelligence tools for reporting and analytics.
  • Lead the development and analysis of HR metrics, surveys, and reports.
  • Drive policy development to streamline operations and enhance institutional success.
  • Ensure understanding and compliance with collective agreements, employment and labor legislation and any other applicable regulations and updates to regulations
  • Classification of roles (union and exempt) utilizing various classification methods.
  • Complete public sector and other compensation surveys by providing accurate reports and analysis
  • Research and implementation of best practices in compensation, payroll, benefits and/or reporting
  • Collaborate with the larger People & Culture department members to ensure smooth processing between the areas with a collaborative and continuous improvement mindset.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years direct payroll, benefits & pension hands-on experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field (Human Resources, Finance, Accounting, Management, etc.)
  • Minimum of 3 years in an evolving role working with data analysis tools and techniques and/or HR reporting experience.
  • 2+ years of leadership experience in a fast-paced organization
  • Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) designation or in-process of completing the certification within 1 year is required.
  • Experience working with classification and job evaluation systems (Hay/Korn Ferry or point factor classifications)
  • Experience in unionized environment (labor relations); experience in post-secondary or public sector is an asset
