Description:

About the role:
DMCL Chartered Professional Accountants seeks a customer-oriented Manager to join one of our esteemed Private Enterprise Groups in our Tri-Cities office. The ideal candidate will have previous management experience in a public practice firm, specifically working with private, owner-managed clients. As our Private Enterprise practices continue to experience growth, we are seeking individuals ready to contribute to this expansion. Innovation is not merely encouraged—it is celebrated—as we tackle intricate scenarios with high-growth clients that trust in our expertise.
Our private enterprise team is bursting with entrepreneurial spirit. They work side-by-side with our clients to navigate challenges and opportunities at every stage of their growth. Whether it’s assurance, tax or advisory services, our private enterprise team members are dedicated to understanding our clients’ business and bringing new insights and strategies to help achieve their goals.

How you’ll make a difference:

  • Support Senior Managers and/or Partners by managing, reviewing, and planning client work, acting as a buffer when needed.
  • Lead assurance, tax, and audit teams for private sector clients, managing engagements within the portfolio.
  • Plan, manage, and finalize Notice to Readers (NTRs) and Review Engagement Reports (RERs).
  • Play a vital role in planning and executing engagements successfully.
  • Deliver outstanding service to clients, including managing information flow.
  • Foster client relations by liaising with them to manage scheduling and deadlines.
  • Handle inquiries from external agencies like CRA, Ministry of Finance, and banking institutions.
  • Review and prepare financial statements, tax returns, and various filings.
  • Perform assurance and audit tasks, prepare year-end files, and conduct necessary research.
  • Create detailed client invoices for year-end packages.
  • Prepare various documentation and letters, including PBCs, reorganization letters, NOA letters, NORA letters, and tax election forms.

Who you are:

  • Experienced CPA with a strong background in public practice, specializing in Private Enterprise clientele.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Canadian tax preparation, including personal and corporate tax returns, as well as various required filings like trust returns and tax elections.
  • Skilled in utilizing CaseWare and Taxprep, with additional experience in QuickBooks, Simply Accounting, and other cloud-based applications considered advantageous.
  • Conduct regular check-ins with staff to monitor file status and ensure timely completion, providing support where needed.
  • Value giving and receiving feedback, leading quarterly and annual performance reviews to support staff progression.
  • Interested in assisting with supervisory responsibilities such as hiring, training, budgeting, scheduling, and staff development to enhance practice management understanding.
  • Enjoy networking and open to representing DMCL as a brand ambassador in recruitment events.
  • Seek opportunities for personal and professional growth, continuously expanding knowledge, skills, and abilities through daily interactions and work activities.
  • Committed to making a positive impact, both big and small, and open to mentoring CPA students through coaching meetings and review of core CPA competencies using the Practical Experience Report Tool (PERT).

What DMCL offers:

  • A competitive salary and full benefits package.
  • A standard 35-hour work week
  • A defined pathway to career progression
  • Paid overtime or time off in lieu of overtime for all levels.
  • Flexible time to use throughout the year (equivalent to 12 additional days off on top of vacation);
  • Mental and physical wellness allowance
  • Policy for Additional Time Meal Allowance: If you work beyond 10 hours, your dinner expenses are covered by us as per our policy.
