QUALIFICATIONS
University graduation in a field related to the position assignment, supplemented by four years related experience.
Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis.
Assets:
- Masters Degree with 5 years of experience is strongly preferred
- Knowledge and experience with the education of children and students with disabilities; extensive knowledge of program development and instruction based on the training & experience with administration, interpretation and reporting results from standardized tests.
- Training & experience with conducting functional, language, behaviour and general learning assessments.
- Extensive knowledge of child development; training or willingness to undertake training in mediation and administrative justice.
- Knowledge of Program Unit Funding and Severe Disabilities Funding.

Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Director of School Accreditation, Monitoring and Print Services, this job is accountable for verifying that claims for severe disabilities funding (SDF) and Program Unit Funding (PUF) grants are accurate and that children and students with a diagnosed disability are identified consistently across the province. In this position, the individual is responsible for communicating information to school authorities, parents and external agencies, the requirements and purposes of these grants for the provision of educational programming. The primary function of this position is to ensure the department is meeting government’s fiscal goal of cost containment.
Within the context of Program and System Supports Division’s purpose and core functions and in support of government’s strategic plan, the department’s vision, mission, and business plan, the Manager, PUF/SDF is responsible for the following activities:
- Provides Department leadership and communication about Program Unit Funding (PUF) and Severe Disabilities Funding (SDF) to school authorities and department colleagues.
- Designs and delivers engagement sessions for school authorities so they are informed of the department’s expectations for claiming the PUF and SDF Grants.
- Interprets and clarifies funding policy through ongoing communication with school authorities. Communicates and interprets Education’s grant policies for provincial professional colleges such as the Alberta College of Speech Language Pathologists and Audiologists.
- Establishes and maintains strong and frequent communication of Education’s grant and funding polices with colleagues in other government departments.
- Determines the personal information needed for funding verification processes from the Corporate Data Warehouse and works closely with Information Technology to ensure the appropriate use of the data while maintaining its security.
- Reviews and recommends revisions to provincial policies, regulations and standards.
- Maintains current knowledge in educational research and pedagogy to support senior sector representatives with continual development and enhancement of service excellence framework.
- Collaborates with other Education branches, sectors and divisions, including Department Communications to ensure relevant considerations and key messages are included.
- Reviews, edits and revises briefings and other written materials produced by the team before being sharing them with the Director and Executive Director.
- Promotes and provides clarification of the department’s inclusive education policy across branches, sectors, divisions and with school authority leaders and their staff.
