National Parks Conversation Association (NPCA), the nation’s oldest and largest national parks nonprofit advocate, has an exciting opportunity for a Manager, Prospect Development to join our Development department. This position will report to the Senior Director of Development Operations.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Manager, Prospect Development is responsible for providing the strategic vision and leadership to guide the development, implementation and continuous improvement of the organization’s prospect management and prospect research efforts, methods and strategies to help meet NPCA’s fundraising goals.
Location: Washington, DC or Remote
Travel : Ability to travel 2 to 3 times out of the year.
Salary:$65,000-82,000 based upon experience and location {GRADE M}
Work Status: Full-time

Minimum Scope of Position: Interacts primarily with members of the Development department, and works with NPCA leadership and other departments as research needs arise. Maintains connections with other prospect development professionals and resource providers in the industry to stay abreast of resources and best practices.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES, SKILLS, EDUCATION, AND TRAITS:
- 4-5 years of experience in nonprofit development and prospect research or prospect management related work, OR a combination of experience and education in business, marketing, library science, or a similar field of study.
- Experience working with fundraising CRM systems, preferably Revolution Online. Experience working with fee-based research tools, such as LexisNexis, iWave, or Target Analytics. Competence with database programs, Microsoft Office applications, collaboration software, and expertise in internet searching.
- Ability to analyze and match charitable and economic interests of prospective donors with NPCA, and to evaluate prospects/donors by financial capacity, interests, and relationships.
- Ability to perform in-house data mining, including sophisticated constituent database queries and a strong understanding of statistical modeling concepts.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong presentation delivery, ability to convey ideas and complex research, and provide effective training and instruction across a variety of learning styles and delivery methods.
- Handles sensitive information with confidentiality and tact. Ensures department adheres to research guidelines, methodologies and ethics as defined by Apra as well as the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Code of Ethics.

Responsibilities:
Prospect Research Profiles: Work with all levels of the institution to provide confidential in-depth prospect research and respond to research requests from colleagues. Use third-party tools and internal data to gather, verify, and produce in-depth profiles on individual, corporate and foundation prospects, as well as abbreviated bios of NPCA event and travel attendees, and other ratings and qualified donor/prospect lists/reports for end users and their teams to support fundraising efforts. Securely maintain files and templates, and ensure collected research information is imported into the CRM and disseminated to relevant staff in a timely manner. 30%
Prospect Identification: Evaluate and recommend potential campaign, leadership, major and mid-level gift prospects. Collect and analyze a broad spectrum of information to assess the likelihood, potential programmatic interest and at what level a prospect or donor might support NPCA. The information collected will include biographical, philanthropic, professional and financial details. Determine, verify, and assign appropriate donor ratings to prospect records on a regular basis. Create, maintain and update any tools and resources that provide prospective donor information to front-line staff and leadership. 30%
Data Maintenance: Ensure research information, profiles and bios are entered into donor records. Assist in maintaining and updating biographical, contact, and relationship information for donors in Revolution Online. Handle transfers of prospects among portfolios and build out new portfolios as needed. 20%
Oversee Research Program: Oversee the prospect research budget and manage vendor relationships, contracts, and payment of invoices. Assess research program needs and build a comprehensive pool of resources (subscription databases, search tools, relationship software, trade publications, etc). Establish research program goals and performance plans and identify future staffing needs and training requirements. 10%
Training, Documentation & Improvements: Provide training for NPCA staff on prospect research. Create, maintain and distribute prospect research documentation and SOPs. Identify opportunities to streamline, automate, or improve research tasks. 10%
