REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A graduate degree (PhD, MSc, MA, MBA, Master of Management) or equivalent extensive experience.
  • Canadian Association of Research Administrators (CARA) training
  • Demonstrated and extensive knowledge of Tri-Council, Canadian, and provincial funding organizations and grants programs
  • Experience with research grants management (specific to proposal development/proposals review) in an applied research environment and knowledge of grants procedures, guidelines and best practices
  • Knowledge of institutional research policies and agreements
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills, exercise a high degree of initiative, independence, and judgement
  • Demonstrated ability to manage highly complex requirements within multiple proposals under inflexible funder timelines
  • Demonstrated organizational, analytical, research and creative skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated effective financial management skills
  • Demonstrated project management skills
  • Demonstrated skills in the development and management of effective data collection and reporting systems and processes.
  • Knowledge of intellectual property

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Manager, Research Programs, The Manager, Research Grants is a professional and key role in Research Partnerships and Innovation (RPI) in enhancing the growth and expansion of our applied research enterprise by increasing partnerships, funding, and project success and contributing to overall research-related institutional KPIs. The Manager, Research Grants is responsible for leading review and coordination of research proposals in accordance with the requirements and merit criteria of the relevant funding agency and manages the research coordinator position within RPI. The Manager, Research Grants will provide expert advice and guidance to research staff and faculty/instructors on applicable funding programs, requirements, institutional policies, procedures and guidelines and grant proposals. The position will facilitate internal research partnerships and provide substantive review and feedback to strengthen proposals, provide expert guidance to external partners on areas of research expertise, equipment, and capabilities and responds to inquiries and requests to facilitate linkages between industry and research expertise in collaboration with Manager, Industry Liaison. The Manager, Research Grants will maintain knowledge of and advise researchers on TCPS2, REB requirements, and EDI requirements, lead funding data and departmental data collection and reporting, manage internal grants competitions for applied research and related initiatives and lead the strategic planning of STAR in consultation with Co-Chairs.
