Responsibilities:

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Director, Occupational Health & Safety and Business Continuity, this position is responsible for Business Continuity, Facility Emergency Planning and Department Security program management. This position provides operational direction towards the effective implementation of these programs and leads a team of subject matter experts and specialized staff.
As the department Business Continuity Officer, the position coordinates the department’s response to business disruptions and facilitates risk-informed decision making by building risk management capacity and assisting staff in applying risk management thinking.
Additionally, this position provides advice and performs functions as outlined in the Government Emergency Management Regulation, the Alberta Emergency Management Plan, and Occupational Health and Safety regulation and program.
This position is responsible for submitting Business Continuity Plans and Facility Emergency Response Plans on behalf of EPA, provide consultative advice to stakeholders and senior managers, and to establish and maintain liaison with Alberta Emergency Management Agency, other departments, and partners.

DUTIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Lead a team of subject matter experts and specialized staff in the design, delivery, coordination and continuous improvement of Business Continuity, Facility Emergency Planning and Department Security programs.
  • Monitor and evaluate the Department’s progress in implementing and improving program delivery within framework boundaries.
  • Recommend key strategies and develop operational plans to improve preparation for, response to, recovery from and mitigation of threats and impacts to facility emergencies, business disruptions and physical security breaches.
  • Maintain awareness of and research trends and best practices to address operational risk and its application in the department including business impact analysis, facility response plans, client interactions, infrastructure, and physical security.
    In the event of a business disruption this position must be available immediately and be willing to travel as and when required.
