SHINE SA is South Australia’s leading not-for-profit comprehensive sexual and reproductive health organisation. Founded in 1970, SHINE SA is grounded in the principles of bodily autonomy and choice prioritising services for populations with the highest need and vulnerabilities to poorer health outcomes.

SHINE SA’S SCHOOLS EDUCATION AND SUPPORT TEAM

SHINE SA are committed to empowering South Australian educators and support staff to implement an evidence-based, whole-school approach to comprehensive relationships and sexual health education.
We train educators and support staff to equip them with the confidence and skills to teach comprehensive relationships and sexual health education to their students. This supports young people to establish respectful, healthy, pleasurable relationships and build confidence in accessing services.
We have been training teachers in South Australian schools since 2003. Many of these teachers are part of our Focus Schools Program in Department for Education secondary schools. Each year these schools collect student feedback on how their school is delivering relationships and sexual health education. Our latest Student Snapshot Report compiles this data (from over 4,000 students!) and out of these students 92% believed the course was useful for them now or in the future. You can read the full report here: SHINE-SA-SES-Snapshot-Report-2024.pdf
In addition to secondary education our Schools Education and Support Team (mostly comprised of registered teachers) support educators in primary education, tailored learning environments (e.g. FLO) and inclusive education for students with disability.
