The Calgary TELUS Convention Centre is looking to hire the position of Manager, Security Services in the Security Department.

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Government of Alberta Security Services license with no restrictions, defined by the Security Services and Investigators Act & Regulations, or otherwise which would prevent them from performing their assigned duties.
  • Minimum 7 years of industry experience and 3 years in a leadership capacity
  • Experience and working knowledge of the Criminal Code of Canada and applicable Provincial Statutes.
  • Possess and maintain training requirements established by the Security Services training program, including but not limited to, First Aid (Standard Level C with AED or equivalent), Alberta Basic Security Training or equivalent.
  • Maintain professional and personal integrity, confidentiality, and possess a strong work ethic.
  • Experience and working knowledge of Access Control Systems, CCTV, and Report Writing Systems.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Maintain a reasonable level of physical fitness to be able to handle the demands of emergency situations including long hours, stress, and physical exertion.
  • Good mobility is essential for assessing the situation, coordinating resources, and making decisions. This includes walking, climbing, and possibly running.
  • Must have the stamina to stay focused and effective over extended periods.
  • Clear vision and good hearing are essential for assessing scenes, communicating with responders, and making critical decisions.

EDUCATION

  • Post-secondary education in a related field.
  • SSIA License
  • ICS 200 equivalent or above
  • First Aid, CPR, and AED Training
  • Risk Assessment and Management considered an asset
  • PPCT equivalent considered an asset.

Responsibilities:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee the day-to-day security operations for the property, ensuring that all security-related activities function ethically, efficiently, effectively and with utmost professionalism;
  • In consultation with the Facility Operations Senior Leadership Team, develop, implement, maintain and audit security policies and procedures;
  • Ensure incident reports are completed by Security Services Agents for all incidents and review to ensure documentation meets CTCC Standards;
  • Track security occurrences, monitor crime and safety trends and incidents and provide reports and/or recommendations to the Senior Manager, Client Operations;
  • Ensure reports and records are submitted, stored and maintained in accordance with company and regulatory standards;
  • Oversee day-to-day activities related to the maintenance and functionality of the building’s access control, CCTV, intercoms, portable radios, etc.;
  • Address security concerns, investigate and recommend corrective actions Senior Manager, Client Operations;
  • Monitor and ensure the building access control protocols are being maintained, including but not limited to, access card management, hard key management, client room unlock/lock procedures, building unlock/lock procedures, etc;
  • Conduct event risk assessments to establish minimum and recommended event safety and security requirements;
  • Manage security resources and assets, including but not limited to, contract security and medical labour for client-related requirements;
  • Ensure an inventory of all security systems, equipment, and supplies, is kept up to date;
  • Participate as an active member of the CTCC’s Emergency Management and Health and Safety Committees;
  • Lead, plan, direct, and control responses to emergency situations and evacuations, including acting as Incident Commander;
  • Establish and maintain relationships with external agencies which may include but not limited to, local law enforcement and municipal agencies such as City Bylaw and Calgary Transit;
  • In collaboration with OH&S organize and lead the fire alarm, evacuation, and other emergency response drills;
  • Modify the emergency action plans and procedures for the property as required for review by the Emergency Management Committee;
  • Ensure staff are properly trained in and comply with CTCC’s safe work practices and Occupation Health & Safety regulations;
  • Provide guidance, motivation, and direction to Security Services Agents in accordance with all CTCC policies and procedures;
  • Support the recruitment, selection, and retention of Security Services Agents;
  • Manage the performance management process for all Security Services Agents, with support from the Senior Manager, Client Services;
  • Maintain employee schedules, time off requests, and pay adjustments and submit approved timesheets to the Payroll Department;
  • Lead the Security Services training program with support from the Senior Manager, Client Operations.
  • Lead the Security Services team in achieving team and individual KPIs
  • Build and manage relationships with clients, guests, employees, in-house service providers, contractors, tenants, and stakeholders ensuring security issues are addressed promptly;
  • Provide recommendations to the Senior Manager, Client Operations on the yearly operational and capital expenditure budgets and participate in planning and executing Security Team related capital projects;
  • Process Security Services operational expenditures as defined by the CTCC’s Purchasing Policies;
  • Ensure full compliance with legislation governing security and investigative services as defined in the Security Services and Investigators Act, the Security Services and Investigators Regulations and the Security Services and Investigators Act Ministerial Regulations; including but not limited to maintaining license status, training qualifications, authorized equipment, reporting requirements, complaint processes and Code of Conduct. Monitor and convey changes to this legislation and accreditation standards, file for exemptions when required, to ensure compliance by security personnel; and,
  • Undertake other duties and projects as required.
