SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

We are looking for an experienced maritime professional manager. To be successful in this position, you will have the following skills and experience:

  • One of the following qualifications
  • an Australian Certificate of Competency as Master Class 1 or Engineer Class 1;
  • a Degree acceptable for graduate membership of the Institution of Engineers, Australia or
  • comparable qualifications or degree appropriate to the duties of the position (ie Naval Architecture);
  • Regulatory experience with administering maritime legislation, and administrative law decision making;
  • Experience in a senior managerial role, with a focus on process orientation, continuous improvement and empowering teams to deliver required outcomes;
  • Extensive understanding of safety and pollution standards applicable to convention and non convention vessels operating in Australian waters; and
  • Ability to represent AMSA and national and international forums

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the National Operations Manager – Central, the Manager Ship Inspection is responsible for delivering marine certification services for Regulated Australian Vessels RAVs and our leading inspection regime for foreign flag, RAV and domestic commercial vessels operating in Australian waters.

You will be responsible for:

  • Delivering effective training programs for our inspectors conducting port and flag state vessel inspections
  • Ensuring effective procedures and guidance material are in place to support both the Ship Inspection team and our Inspectorate teams
  • Provision of technical subject matter expertise and engaging with internal and external stakeholders
  • Maintaining effective service agreements with recognised organisations for the provision of marine survey and certification services under the Navigation Act 2012
  • Delivering defensible, risk based decisions relating to exemptions and equivalences and execute high level delegated responsibilities under our administered legislation
