THE OPPORTUNITY

The Ministry of Immigration and Career Training’s Policy Branch is seeking a high-performing, results-driven, strategic leader for a 12-month term in the position of Manager, Strategic Initiatives, located in Regina, Saskatchewan. Working in a complex environment that requires strong planning, communication and analytical skills, you will manage a team of senior policy analysts working on special projects and providing strategic support to the ministry. Your strategic orientation, organizational skills and ability to lead, motivate and coach employees are key to success in this position.

Reporting to the Director of Policy, your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing and enabling individual work performance of direct reports;
  • Leading the coordination and strategic implementation of ministry priorities;
  • Facilitating collaboration and building effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Conducting research, analysis and providing strategic advice on issues and opportunities;
  • Supporting the ministry with its strategic policy needs; and,
  • Enhancing the decision-making capacity of senior leaders through written and oral briefings.

Success in this role demands:

  • The ability to interpret and implement ministry strategy and provide meaningful direction to employees to ensure their work aligns and contributes to the ministry’s success;
  • An experienced policy professional with strong research, analytical, and evaluation skills;
  • Strong leadership and coaching skills and the ability to accomplish goals through the work of others;
  • A confident, diplomatic leader that communicates clearly and consistently when representing the ministry in engaging stakeholders;
  • A highly-organized manager capable of leading staff hiring and development, reviewing and approving work, and other administrative duties to support a high-performing team; and,
  • A relationship-builder that can model and create a positive team environment with a culture focused on respect and integrity, serving citizens, excellence and innovation, and one-team.

Typically, the knowledge and experience required to achieve the above is obtained through completion of a graduate degree in public policy, social science, commerce/business or a related field, or through completion of an undergraduate degree combined with relevant experience.
