Description:
Reporting to the Director, Total Rewards, People & Culture, the Manager, Total Rewards leads and manages the functional areas responsible for College compensation, pension and benefits and HR Records. The Manager provides internal consulting to senior management to facilitate planning, proactive decision making and management of the College’s total rewards package as well as to evaluate risk exposure. The Manager relies on the subject matter expertise of their direct reports to create integrated and innovative processes and programs.
As a member of the HR Management team, the Manager understands the departmental goals, objectives and contributes knowledge, expertise and technical support which advance the strategic direction of the business. The role influences and acts as a strategic partner and expert advisor for a range of programs and processes related to total rewards and establishes and ensures Sheridan’s ability to maintain internal equity and to leverage its ability to recruit and retain top talent.
THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL ALSO MEET THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS:
- 4-year bachelor’s or a 3-year diploma with a post graduate diploma in Business, Finance or Human resources.
- With a minimum of 7 years of previous job-related experience. (Or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Prior HR management experience in a unionized environment. Including recruitment, selection, performance assessment and guidance of subject matter experts.
- Knowledge of payroll practices and reporting practices, experience with total reward best practices. Including audit, financial reconciliation and legislated statutory obligations.
- Experience working with HRIS and applications.
- Knowledge and experience with compensation administration and job evaluation
- The following certifications are desired or preferred: Certified Compensation Professional (CCP), Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS)Certification and Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP)

Responsibilities:
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
- Leading of Sheridan’s compensation programs, policies and procedures; including analysis, base pay, pay equity, job evaluations and compliance with collective agreements and relevant legislation;
- Aligning compensation approaches with Sheridan’s business needs, developing creative solutions for workforce planning and retention/recruitment issues, recommending solutions or alternative actions to resolve rewards related challenges;
- Conducting annual compensation market data benchmarking analysis for Administrative roles and consolidating results;
- Overall leadership, direction and integrated program management of the Pension, and Benefits function for Sheridan. Incumbent is responsible for compliance with regulatory, legislative, and plan sponsor obligations, development of internal operating procedures and controls and superior client service;
- Overseeing pension and benefit administration policies /practices, including three collective agreements and one non-union group; Administering the various employee benefit programs with carriers including, but not limited to, life and health insurance, and disability plans;
- Developing and implementing pension and benefits communication strategies to maximize the value of benefits to employees and Sheridan;
- Overall leadership, direction and integrated program management of the HR Records function for Sheridan, directly for all employees in accordance with collective agreements, pension and benefit plans, terms and conditions of employment, and related legislation;
- Maintaining accuracy and integrity of HRIS master data (i.e. new hires, leave of absences, master data changes, terminations), records management, and ensuring deadlines between HR and Finance (Payroll) are met;
- Acting as a subject matter expert on pan institutional projects regarding systems and process changes involving Compensation, Pension and Benefits and HR Records;
- Providing leadership to Total Rewards and Payroll in redesigning, automating and implementing processes;
- Collaborating with a variety of internal and external stakeholders develop and implement creative solutions aligned with the Sheridan’s vision and strategic goals;
- Performing other duties as assigned, including project management of Total Rewards and HR Records initiatives.
