Description:

JOB SUMMARY:

As the Transport Manager (CPC Holder) you will be responsible for providing the transport operations at our Heathrow unit with leadership and strategic direction as well as compliance with the Operator’s License. Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Fleet Management: Serve as the primary contact for all fleet-related issues.
Operational Strategy: Collaborate with the Operations Manager to develop cost-efficient strategies.
Legislation Compliance: Ensure the fleet operates within legal and regulatory standards.
Policy Implementation: Assist in drafting and enforcing fleet operation policies.
Vehicle Maintenance: Oversee strict maintenance schedules to minimise downtime.
Record Keeping: Maintain detailed records of vehicle inspections and services.
Budget Monitoring: Ensure fleet costs stay within budget.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Education:

  • Minimum education to A-Levels / BTEC National or Equivalent.
  • Recognized professional qualification, e.g. DMS, BTEC (preferable).
  • Recognised industry qualification, e.g. Transport Manager CPC or OLAT

WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Previous front-line management experience in a similar role.
  • Previous experience in managing staff.
  • Previous experience of working with Budgets / KPI’s
  • Previous experience working with tachograph analysis systems such as FTA Vison
  • Previous experience of communicating with the Office of the Traffic Commissioner (OTC) preferred.

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:

  • Strong understanding of road transport law and legislation.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of driver hours and working times.
  • Understanding of health and safety, food hygiene, security regulations (CAA AVSEC)
  • Proven ability to lead and manage diverse teams of varying sizes and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Organised, process driven with an exceptional focus on detail.
  • Ability to prioritise workloads and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Good negotiating and persuasive skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage conflict.

Responsibilities:

  • Effectively Manage Fleet compliance and operations in line with company policy and your obligations as the named ‘O’ license holder.
  • Ensure all vehicles are operated in a roadworthy condition and an effective vehicle defect reporting system is in place.
  • Create and implement an effective vehicle maintenance plan while ensuring and overseeing correct vehicle maintenance procedures (PMI’s and repairs) are in place.
  • Monitor External Maintenance Contractors & visit workshops regularly.
  • Ensure vehicles are presented for PMI’s on the correct dates.
  • Ensure vehicles are booked in & presented for MOT’s on the correct dates.
  • Monitor OCRS scores & encounter reports.
  • Regularly audit maintenance records & ensure these records are maintained for 15 months.
  • Ensure drivers conduct daily walk round checks efficiently ensuring corrective training provided where deemed necessary.
  • Liable for any shortcomings in maintenance & PG9’s PG13’s issued.
  • Attend prearranged VOSA inspections at operating centers.
  • Oversee vehicle scheduling.
  • Responsible for effectively managing drivers maintaining driver hour records and tachographs.
  • Ensure Drivers are schedule in compliance with EEC & Domestic driving rules.
  • Ensure driver’s cards & VU’s are downloaded at the required intervals.
  • Regularly check driver’s digital & analogue tachographs charts/printouts.
  • Provide warnings of any driving infringements to drivers.
  • Ensure & oversee compliance to the “Driver CPC Training” program.
  • Driver CRB checks.
  • Operator License variation applications.
  • Proactively champion a culture of health & safety, colleague wellbeing, care, and an environmentally friendly workplace.
  • Ensure adherence to relevant legislation and regulations.
  • Comply with UK road regulations including Airside compliance.
  • Establish and maintain KPIs for fleet operations.
  • Analyse and disseminate airline/commercial data to ensure overall operation is kept up to date with latest instructions and expectations.
  • To take full responsibility for the live operation on a shift and assist the wider Operations team with issue resolution and efficient communication ensuring problems are prioritised and solved.
