Responsibilities:
- Leading, mentoring, and developing a diverse team of professionals in waste characterization including management of performance, identifying and developing future leaders, and addressing issues and concerns to support the team.
- Fostering a culture of inclusivity, innovation, and continuous improvement within the department including promoting the development and implementation of new and improved techniques and instrumentation and maintaining awareness of industry best practices to ensure CNL remains at the forefront of waste characterization within Canada.
- Promoting a Strong Safety culture ensuring adherence to Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL’s) Code of Conduct and safety policies.
- Developing and communicating the team strategy and mission.
- Leading the integration and collaboration with different organizations (internal and external to CNL) to ensure operational alignment of waste characterization with the governing process and efficiency of operations.
- Building strong collaboration relationships with supporting organizations ensures effective and efficient use of company resources to meet customer requirements.
- Managing the implementation of the Characterization process within CNL including ensuring all waste characterization activities comply with the relevant regulations and standards.
- Implementing quality assurance protocols for all elements of waste characterization services and within the ERM analytical laboratory.
- Planning, coordinating, and executing annual project plans, ensuring the department is operated within defined budgets.
- Collaborating with the Environmental Remediation Management (ERM) business development team to source and identify commercial opportunities and provide input into developing commercial bids and proposals.
- Identifying opportunities to optimize characterization efforts through the identification of and implementation of innovative techniques and industry best practices.
- Supporting communication and education across CNL on principles of waste management, including implementing the waste hierarchy and supporting sustainability initiatives.
- Interacting daily and weekly with various department teams and senior leadership through standard reporting or process updates, department metrics, project progress reports, and communication of issues and resolution action plans.
- Interacting routinely with Characterization staff for supervision, mentoring and leadership.
- Other duties as assigned by your manager.
