POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Reporting to the Associate Dean within the Centre for Hospitality & Culinary Arts (CHCA) the Manager, Work Integrated Learning (WIL), is responsible for generating new placement opportunities and ensuring they align with Course Learning Outcomes and Program Learning Outcomes for approval by Associate Deans. The incumbent will usher in approvals for placements and facilitate the execution of agreements. The Manager will also assist in making connections with industry partners and employers to other CHCA opportunities, such as participation in Program Advisory Committees (PACs), donor engagement and College events.
EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Four-year degree from a recognized post-secondary institute in Business, Hospitality or Education, or in a field with systems, project management and process optimization as core areas of focus.
- Masters is preferred.
- Minimum years (5) years of work placement and experiential learning experience.
- Experience in budget, project, and event management, as well as academic processes.
- Proven track record of collaboration with multiple internal and external stakeholders who have competing demands and the ability to protect and grow relationships while balancing these demands.
SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES:
- Excellent computer skills including proficiency in MS Office, project management software and social media and data.
- Sound knowledge of the Hospitality and Culinary Arts Industry and post-secondary academic requirements; ability to analyze trends and current events and formulate plans and recommendations.
- Advanced MS software and internal College software programs (Banner, Stu-View, Millennium, ORBIS, Webmail).
- Project management and data analytics skills.
- Event management skills including planning and budgeting.
- Process improvement techniques and use of related tools.
- Broad leadership skills managing a diverse team of experienced individuals.
- Demonstrated commitment to uphold the College’s priorities on diversity and equity.
- Able to travel for offsite meetings and external industry events.

Responsibilities:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborates with Associate Deans and WIL staff toward delivering Field Education externship and coop experiences in School programs.
- Working with the WIL Committee representatives, the Senior Manager WIL, collaborates on College wide initiatives as determined by the Office of the Vice President Academic and the Office of Academic Excellence and will establish reporting metrics and develops efficient strategies for measuring results.
- Guides and directs team of support staff to provide and update industry partner information in database to maintain relationships. Support staff will facilitate activities to enable the Manager and Associate Dean to secure field placements aligned with learning objectives with key industry partners who can contribute a value-add to applied field education at CHCA. Associate Deans will approve placements.
- Fosters and maintains relationships with industry partners and directs the support staff to complete health and safety checks and ensure relevant documentation is filed that meets the College’s requirements for student placements.
- Identifies, recruits and fosters industry field placement partnership relationships to ensure optimal WIL student experiences across all sectors of the Hospitality and Culinary Industry (for domestic and international field placements).
- Responsible for contacting new business prospects and cross-marketing Centre for Hospitality and Culinary Arts (CHCA) programs to existing employers. This is accomplished by meeting and exceeding specific targets as determined by WIL student enrolment numbers provided by the Associate Dean to ensure there are placement opportunities available for every student.
- Responsible for ensuring that appropriate placements exist for all students in the School.
- Manages staff reporting to this position with respect to their role, George Brown policies and procedures, particularly the WIL Policy and any other requirements of the role.
- Other duties as assigned.
